Country music is one of those types of music that people either like it or they hate it. I don’t think I’ve ever come across anybody that said they thought it was just OK. Now I could be wrong, but it’s been my experience that those that like country LOVE it. On this day of April 30, 2026 country musician David Allan Coe has passed away and it got me thinking about the album he did with Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul, and Rex Brown called Rebel Meets Rebel. I also remember when the album was released it was accompanied by a video of the song called “Nothin To Lose” and that is today’s Collaboration. Let’s take a look……….
Now the album was released on May 2, 2006 posthumously after Dimebag Darrell’s murder in December of 2004 and was the first release under Vinnie Paul’s record label Big Vin Records. This collaboration actually started a lot sooner than 2006 and in fact, both Dime and Coe met in 1999 and started talking about their love of country, music and heavy metal. Both Dime and Coe as well as Vinnie and Rex Brown started writing and recording the Rebel Meets Rebel album sporadically between 1999 and 2003. As I said before, the song “Nothin To Lose” kicks off the album and it’s a great blend of heavy metal and country. I would say it’s one of those songs that shouldn’t work, but if you really think about it, it works quite well and this particular song is such a great way to kick off this album. Now the music video for it is also just as cool and it starts off with Vinnie Paul as a card dealer before going right into it. I think David Allan Coe’s vocals complement, the rest of the band’s playing and you could look at it as a country version of Pantera. This song has such a cool groove and vocal melody that it’s just so much fun and if you’ve never heard of this before, definitely give this song as well as the rest of the album a listen.
