Ok so I know it’s been awhile since I’ve done a mixed bag review so I thought I’d do one for this next review. Some bands for this you may have heard of and some probably not so here goes……………
Oysterhead- so this is a supergroup featuring Les Claypool (Primus), Stuart Copeland (The Police), and Trey Anastasio (Phish). So far they only have the one record called The Grand Pecking Order. Now if you are looking for a Primus sounding band then look further. I would imagine if someone put jazz and funk together and threw in a little bit of rock then this would be the end result. This is a very unique and (at times) weird sounding record. I actually enjoyed this more than I would’ve thought so I’ll give this one 8/10
Standouts:
- Mr. Oysterhead
- Oz Is Everfloating
- Shadow Of A Man
- Pseudo Suicide
- Radon Balloon
Go Ahead And Die- another Max Cavalera project and this is one that is him and his son Igor as well as someone named Zach Coleman. This one seems to have more of a hardcore punk sound than say Soulfly or even Sepultura. It’s really good and I definitely recommend checking it out. Now as of now there is just the one self titled album but I for one am looking forward to another record. I’ll give this 10/10
Standouts:
- Truckload Full Of Bodies
- Prophets Prey
- G.A.A.D.
- Punisher
- Roadkill
The Pink Slips- so this is a band that I saw open for Alice In Chains back in like 2018 at the Palladium. For those who don’t know, the singer is Grace McKagen (Duff McKagen’s daughter) and she has a really good voice. I would best describe them as synth-pop, rock, and a little bit of punk. They are a unique band and when I saw them, they were really tight and brought a lot of energy. Now why am I putting them in a mixed bag review? Well simply put they really only have one EP and a bunch of singles and unfortunately they have broken up. It’s really too bad because I was looking forward to hearing more from them. I’ll give their EP Trigger 8/10
Standouts:
- Texas
- I’m Ready (single from I’m Ready)
- Trigger
- Satan’s Home
- Sweet Talker (from the single Sweet Talker)
Art Of Anarchy- so this is a supergroup consisting of Bumblefoot from Guns N Roses, John Moyer from Disturbed, and originally Scott Weiland and then Scott Stapp. Now the album with Scott Weiland (which is a self titled album) isn’t bad and it’s important to note that I guess this was his last album he made before he died. Overall it’s just ok (and at least it’s better than Lou Reed’s last album The second album is titled The Madness and it’s actually not bad. It definitely has more of a harder feel to it compared to the other one. It doesn’t really sound like Creed up until the last few songs. I’ll give the self titled 8/10 and The Madness 8.5/10
Standouts:
- Echo Of A Scream (The Madness)
- Small Batch Whiskey (Art Of Anarchy)
- Aqualung (Art Of Anarchy)
- No Surrender (The Madness)
- The Madness (The Madness)
The Troops Of Doom- so this is a band that was formed by original guitarist Jairo Guedez and they have that early 80’s death and thrash metal sound. To be honest I don’t remember how I heard of these guys I think I just stumbled across them on Spotify. There are two EPs one called The Absence Of Light and the other is called The Rise Of Heresy and both are badass. I feel like these guys will get bigger if they would release a full length and tour. I was hoping that Max and Igor Cavalera would ditch the Cavalera Conspiracy name and go by Troops Of Doom but it looks like they were beaten to the punch. Of course there is also a cover of Bestial Devastation and Troops Of Doom both of which are badass. So I’d recommend checking them out. I’ll give both EP’s 9/10
Standouts:
- The Confessional (The Rise Of Heresy)
- Act II The Monarch (The Absence Of Light)
- Morbid Visions Mmxx
- Lugar Nenhum
- Altar Of Delusion
I would definitely recommend checking out any and all of these albums and bands on this review. Some yes are better than others but all are definitely worth a listen.
