Rob Zombie

Alright so now that I’m back doing music reviews, I thought I’d put Rob Zombie on the chopping block. I’ve already reviewed White Zombie so I guess it would make sense to review Rob Zombie. Anyway here we go……

Hellbilly Deluxe- I feel like this is the album that most people would be familiar with when it comes to Rob Zombies solo stuff. I mean you have Dragula on this album which in my opinion is so overplayed. But as far as the rest of the album goes, it feels like an extension of White Zombie and this is definitely a classic. I give it 9/10

Standouts: Superbeast, Meet The Creeper, Demonoid Phenomenon

The Sinister Urge- I remember when this album came out and seeing it in Best Buy and Target. Never bought it though. Anyway, I would say this is on sort of on par with the last album. Is it exactly like Hellbilly Deluxe? For the most part yes. There are some songs that are slowed down and I’m not a big fan of those songs. I feel like Rob Zombie (whether it’s his solo stuff or White Zombie) does better with the faster songs. Personally I don’t think he does well singing slower songs but that’s just me. Anyway, this album starts off so strongly and then towards the end kinda dips and when we get to the last song, it picks up again. Overall, a good follow up to Hellbilly Deluxe. I give this one 9/10

Standouts: Dead Girl Superstar, House Of 1000 Corpses, Iron Head (Ozzy Osbourne sings on this song too)

Educated Horses- ok so in between this album and the last album, Rob took up directing movies. He made House of 1000 Corpses and Devils Rejects and he also headlined second stage at Ozzfest 2005. Got John 5 to be his guitar player and made this album. I remember seeing him at The Wiltern for this album. Lacuna Coil opened and Bullet For My Valentine was supposed to open but thankfully didn’t end up playing that night. Anyway, this is probably my least favorite album so far. I don’t know the songs are slower and I hate the song Foxy Foxy. The album starts off promising then just goes downhill from there. There are some who like this album however I am not one of them. I give this album 1/10

Standouts: Sawdust In The Blood, American Witch

Hellbilly Deluxe 2-  If I could sum this album up in one word it would be boring.  I really wanted to like this album a lot more but it seems very inconsistent. There are a lot more slower songs than faster songs and I found myself wanting to be done with this album. I mean if you’re gonna call your album Hellbilly Deluxe 2 I’d expect it to be on par with the first one. I give it 0/10

Standouts: nothing really worth noting

Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor- I guess I’d say that this is a mix of the last album and The Sinister Urge. Is it better than the previous album? I think so. It has some of those faster songs on it that Rob does better at. As a whole, I don’t see myself revisiting this one anytime soon but I do think it’s a step up from the previous album. I give this one 4/10.

Standouts: Teenage Nosferatu Pussy, Rock And Roll (In A Black Hole), White Trash Freaks

The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser- I’d say that this one seems to pick up where the last album left off. One thing I also like about Rob’s music is that he incorporates movie samples in his songs and you get that plenty here. To me this one has almost an industrial feel to it. I also think this one is a step up from the previous effort. Definitely one to check out. I give it 7/10

Standouts: Well, Everybody’s Fucking in a U.F.O., Medication for the Melancholy, In the Age of the Consecrated Vampire We All Get High

The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy- seriously what’s with these long names for these albums? Like seriously?  That said, this album is awesome. For an album that came out this year it’s pretty damn good. I hadn’t heard anything after Educated Horses but this one could almost be a White Zombie album it’s that good. Like you could put this on after Astro Creep and it would feel like the perfect follow up. There is something for everyone on this album. It goes back to how he used to write albums. Maybe the fact that they played the Astro Creep album live could’ve been an influence I don’t know but if you like White Zombie then definitely check this one out. I give it 10/10.

Standouts: The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition), The Eternal Struggles of the Howling Man, The Satanic Rites of Blacula

I’d say that when it comes to Rob Zombie’s solo music, you have to look at it like his movies. Some are great and some are duds. While I still prefer White Zombie and hope they reunite, Rob’s solo stuff is definitely worth a listen especially the newest album. I’ve seen Rob live a couple times and when he’s on he’s on but more often than not, he’s just ok (at least the times I’ve seen him). I also want to say that John 5 is a fantastic and underrated guitar player and a perfect fit for Rob Zombie.
