Soundtrack Specials: Green Day-Brain Stew (Godzilla version)

For those that are reading this do you remember the 1998 Godzilla film?  Do you remember the soundtrack that accompanied it?  Let’s be honest here the 1998 Godzilla movie isn’t exactly the best entry in that series. However, the soundtrack is pretty damn special.  Anybody who knows me knows that one of my first CDs I ever purchased was the Insomniac album by Green Day and to this day I still think it’s their best album. Of course, one of the biggest hits from that album is the song “Brain Stew.” So what do Green Day and the 1998 Godzilla movie have in common?  Well, the aforementioned song appears on the soundtrack what with a bit of a remix.  Let’s take a look……..

What makes this soundtrack unique is there is a mix of hip-hop/rap as well as rock music.  I mean you have the likes of David Bowie, Puff Daddy with Jimmy Page, Rage Against The Machine, and of course Green Day.  They took the song “Brain Stew” and added Godzilla’s roar throughout the song. I distinctly remember this version being played on 96.7 The Bus (Ventura County’s only rock radio station) and thinking “ wow what a cool remix.”  As well as the Godzilla sounds sprinkled throughout, there are also string arrangements giving this song more of an epic feel.  Now I did try to look it up on Spotify and it is not there. However you can definitely stream it on YouTube and definitely do so because it’s a really cool and unique twist on an already fun song.  I do sort of wish that Green Day would play this version live because I think it would go over really well.  However, I don’t think it would ever happen because while the song is really cool it is sort of a product of its time and I don’t think it would really go over very well.  I think if they randomly played this version, it would confuse a lot of fans and they wouldn’t get the reference.  That said definitely look this song up and give it a listen because as I said, it is just so much fun.
