Up next on the chopping block is a band that I would consider a Warped Tour band. Once you listen to them, you be all like “oh yeah that’s where _____(insert band name)____ got that idea from. Anyway, the band on the chopping block is the band Glassjaw and I was lucky enough to see them and I must say the crowd for them was huge so let’s take a look………
Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence- if you are a casual listener, you might say that this is an emo record but it in fact is not. I can see how one would think that given the way the vocals are but this is what I would call a post hardcore record. You can tell that a lot of early to mid 2000’s bands were influenced by this album. Like when you listen to it, you go “oh yeah that’s where that band got that idea from.” Anyway, I guess this would be considered a classic and I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: Pretty Lush, Hurting And Shoving, Babe
Worship And Tribute- if you look at the lyrics of the last album, it’s a very angry record. If you look at the lyrics for this record, it’s a lot more positive. The production on here is also a lot better and the band is also more dialed in as far as their sound goes. Overall, a very worthy follow up and it gets 9/10
Standouts: Tip Your Bartender, Stuck Pig, Pink Roses
El Mark- this is an EP which definitely serves as a companion piece to Worship. Its only got 3 songs but they’re good songs and definitely compliment said album pretty well. I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: The Number No Good Things Can Come Of
Our Color Green- another EP which contains some singles and has some newer songs. I don’t know this one was kind of boring and I couldn’t get into it. I’ll give it 4/10
Standouts:
Coloring Book- yet another EP and it basically serves as a preview for the upcoming album Material Control. It’s not bad and you’ll probably enjoy it more if you listen to it before Marerial. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Gold
Material Control- there’s almost a rawness to this album which clearly has to do with the production. This one kinda has a tone to it that you would hear on say a Deftones record. I will say that the guitar and drum work is great but overall, I found this one to be just ok. I’ll give it a 7/10
Standouts: New White Extremity, Pompeii, Bibleland 6
At the end of the day, this band really isn’t my cup of tea but I can see how their fans really like them. They do bring in a large crowd live but when I saw them recently, they were kind of low energy and after a while, their songs kinda started to sound the same. But as I said before, I can respect them and can clearly hear them influence they’ve had on countless other bands. If you want to know where bands like Good Charlotte, The Used, or even Everytime I Die got some of their influence, I would start here.
