I’ll admit that when I first heard of Yungblud, I was like “ who the hell is this guy?” I mean usually artists who go by one name tend to fall under the hip-hop category. I mean Usher, Marshmello (or however, the hell you spell it), etc. So when I had first heard of Yungblud I definitely thought the same thing. Then I found out that he did a song with Aerosmith and even still, I was like “ok whatever.” And then of course, he goes and does “Zombie” with the Smashing Pumpkins and that was when I was like “ok let’s hear what this guy has to say.”
Now, while the original version is a great song, this version with the Smashing Pumpkins really just takes it to a whole new level. There are not too many collaborations that I keep going back to and there certainly aren’t too many of them that give me goosebumps but this is definitely one of them. Even when you hear that first note on this version vs. the Pumpkins version you know that it’s going to be a great listening experience. Once Billy starts with his vocals, oh man does it just make you go “whoa!!” The song sounds fuller and going back and listening to both versions proves it.
Now I know there are people that will argue about whether or not Yungblud is the next Ozzy Osbourne especially after his performance of “Changes” at the Back To The Beginning concert but I don’t think so. I truly think that he is his own thing. Yes he can sing Ozzy and Sabbath songs then again so can Billy. I think Yungblud/Dominic Harrison has a fantastic voice and I do think he put on one hell of a show. And when I saw him (earlier in 2026), he closed his set with this song and he even used the same arrangement. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny that this version of “Zombie” is simply fantastic and collaborating with the Smashing Pumpkins brings this to a different level. There’s a reason why Ozzy loved this guy.
