Well let’s see I’ve put Nothingface, Mudvayne, Damageplan, Pantera, and Mudvayne all up on the chopping block so I guess the only natural thing is to put up the band Hellyeah (which is one of the stupidest band names)on the chopping block. Now this is a band that has members of Nothingface, Mudvayne, and of course Pantera so that means it’s gotta be great right? Well let’s take a look……….
Hellyeah- ah 2007 the last days of MySpace, and where cds were still a thing. I remember hearing the demo version of the title track on MySpace and was excited because Vinnie Paul was doing something with members of Nothingface and Mudvayne. Then I heard the rest of the album and well it’s um yeah. Were they trying to go for something serious here? I mean I ask that because there’s songs on here called Alchohaulin’ Ass and the lyrics to the songs are corny as hell. The album itself is not the worst thing I’ve listened to but seriously? Like what were they going for here? I’ll give this one a score of 4/10
Standouts: Hellyeah, Waging War
Stampede- I do remember hearing Full Metal Jackie interviewing Vinnie Paul about this album but keep in mind, when this came out it was during the whole Big 4 playing shows thing and I honestly felt that the last album didn’t get me into them enough for me to follow. Now after listening to it I still feel the same way. This one just isn’t that great although it might have some elements of Pantera in it but you’d have to really listen. Perhaps I’m being too kind but I’m giving this one a score of 2/10
Standouts:
Band Of Brothers- this album had so much potential. By that I mean the songs start off really good but then kinda take a nose dive. Like I feel like they’re almost there then nothing. Of the albums I have heard though this one probably is the least bad but that’s not much of a stretch. I’ll give this one 5/10
Standouts: Rage/Burn
Blood For Blood- I do remember reading somewhere that Chad Gray said that this was the band’s strongest album and I would say sure why not. To me it’s kind of more of the same. You would think that a band with musicians of this caliber would put out greatness and not mediocrity. As far as Chad’s statement goes yeah I guess so. I’ll give this one 3/10
Standouts:
Undeniable- so I guess rap metal is kinda what we’re going for on here?! Seriously wtf is going on with this one? You’d think because it’s a faster album it’d be better but again it does nothing for me. Now one thing to note is that there is a cover of I Don’t Care Anymore by Phil Collins which has guitar parts from Dimebag Darrel and this would be the last album to have Vinnie Paul on drums. I’m giving this one 3/10
Standouts:
Welcome Home- so yes Vinnie Paul is credited on this record as he had completed drums for pre production. This one is kind of what we would expect from this band at this point. The songs are just kind of average and I get that this is technically Vinnie Paul’s last recordings but really at the end of the day it’s just not that great. I’ll give this one 3/10
Standouts: 333 (maybe)
You would think that a band with such great musicians would be one of the most epic and badass supergroups but sadly it’s less of a roar and more of a whimper. As I said in my introduction that the band name has got to be easily one of the STUPIDEST names in rock and metal. Like you can’t take them seriously. But name aside the music just isn’t that great and mediocre at best which is too bad because the last record is what Vinnie Paul is on much like Lou Reed and that Metallica record. Either way Vinnie Paul is a legend and it’s too bad he and Dime are no longer with us. RIP Vinnie Paul
