Guest Vocals: The Crown

Alrighty it’s time for another Guest Vocals and for this one, I want to take a look at a particular album from the front man of what I could say is arguably one of the most influential bands from Sweden. Now as of today, September 16, 2025 the world has sadly lost Tomas Lindberg of At The Gates and so I think it’s most appropriate to take a look at one of his albums that he did that wasn’t an At The Gates record.  So with that, let’s take a look………..

Band: The Crown

Album: Crowned In Terror

So in 1996, At The Gates broke up and in 2001/02, The Crown parted ways with original vocalist Johan Lindstrand and so in steps Tomas Lindberg to handle vocal duties for the album Crowned In Terror. This was my first album from this band and I remember it when I bought it. I don’t think it left my CD player for a solid 2 maybe 2 1/2 months.  Don’t get me wrong all the other albums leading up to this are great but there’s just something special about this album. It has a sort of greediness to it and Tomas’s vocals are absolutely bad ass!!  In my opinion, this is the album that should’ve been released after Slaughter Of The Soul and it very much feels like that. Now I know there are other Swedish death metal bands that have albums that people have said should’ve been the follow up for Slaughter but to me there is absolutely no contest. The previous album Deathrace King (which he did guest vocals on the song Devil Gate Ride) had kind of a punk meets thrash kind of sound, but this one is just full-blown death metal and again I cannot say enough great things about it.  Now this was unfortunately, his only album that he made with this band and they did go back and re-record this album with Johan Lindstrand calling it Crowned Unholy.  There are those that like that one better but to me this one is the better of the two.  Anyway, that’s my take on this absolutely bad ass album and if you’ve never heard this album before, do yourself a huge favor and go listen to it.  If it’s been a while since you’ve listened to it, go back and listen to it again.  RIP Tomas Lindberg!!!
