When it comes to great vocals, especially female vocals, I am thoroughly convinced that Lzzy Hale is hands down one of the best. There’s just something so powerful about her voice and coming in at Number 69 for Song Pick Of The Week is Halestorm and I’m a little late to the game when it comes to this band. The song I’ve chosen is “Back From The Dead” so let’s take a look…..
“Back From The Dead” is one of those quintessential anthemic songs and this was one of the first songs they released after the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s one of the more heavier songs from Halestorm and according to Lzzy Hale, “it’s about survival, not in a physical sense, even though I know we all have been touched by death especially these last few years. This song is personal and written from a mental health perspective. I wanted to give myself and the world a hard rock song we could shout out loud as the gates opened again. I was on the edge of this world getting completely lost in oblivion, but even though it was the harder of two choices, I didn’t just let the darkness and depression in my mind dig me an early grave. I didn’t just sit and let it take me. I’ve erased my name from my headstone, so save your prayers, I’m back! I hope this song, as I pass it on to you, reminds YOU of your strength individually and that you are not alone.” Lzzy’s vocals sound absolutely badass on this song and the rest of the band is firing on all cylinders. It’s also the song that opens the album (of the same name) and is an absolutely perfect way to start. It’s one of those songs that will absolutely help if you are going through a hard time (it has for me) and if you haven’t heard this one or it’s been awhile, give it another listen.
