White Zombie

So for this review I’m going to take a look at White Zombie. This is a band that I’ve been wanting to do this one for a couple weeks now so here we go………

Soul Crusher- so this one I can best describe it as noise rock. This album is kind of a hard one to listen to because eventually everything sounds the same. Rob Zombie’s vocals are so much different on this album. This album features Ivan De Prume on drums and the only album to have Tom Guay on guitar. Anyway, I say check it out only if you are a diehard fan but I think it’s safe to say you can skip this one. I give it 3/10

Standouts: Ratmouth, Crow III, Die Zombie Die

Make Them Die Slowly- the next album is where they really start to find their sound. You can definitely hear and understand the vocals so much better and this one is a lot better than the previous album. There is more of a metal edge mixed with some noise rock on this one. I give it 7/10

Standouts: Demo speed, Disater Blaster, Acid Flesh

La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume 1: this album is where they really started to mature as a band. The production on this is better, the songs are more refined and this is the quintessential White Zombie album. This is the first record with new guitarist Jay Yuenger and you can definitely tell that he brings a lot to their sound. This a classic record and my favorite of the bunch. I give this 10/10

Standouts: Black Sunshine, Soul Crusher, Cosmic Monsters Inc.

Astro Creep 2000- the last record sadly form White Zombie is the first record to feature John Tempesta on drums and this record I feel is a great follow up to the previous record. Between this one and the last one, they were really starting to establish themselves and definitely had that punk meets metal sound going.  While I don’t think this one is as strong as the previous album this is still a great record. I give it 9/10

Standouts: Super Charger Heaven, Electric Head Pt. 1 (The Agony), El Phantasmo and the Chicken-Run Blast-O-Rama

This was a fun review to do seeing as how I hadn’t listened to these guys in a very long time. I also hadn’t heard much of the first couple albums by them. I really wish that they would reunite and do some shows. I remember meeting John Tempesta at the NAMM show and asked him about a reunion and he said they all would love to but it’s ultimately Rob’s decision. Oh well one can dream.

Final Grade: A-
