Up next is a band that I’ve pretty much only seen on Warped Tour. No I’m not talking about Bad Religion or NOFX but instead I’m talking about Every Time I Die. I think the first time I saw them was at the first Sounds of the Underground festival and they were definitely one of the highlights. So here we go……
Last Night In Town- well if you want a straight up metal core album, then look no further. What can I say? It’s raw, angry, and badass. It’s definitely an example of a young band going full force with the guitars and screaming vocals. Now for me personally, it’s not an album I don’t see myself going back to often but it’s still a pretty decent start. I give it 6/10
Standouts: Punch-Drunk Punk Rock Romance, Pincushion, Emergency Broadcast Syndrome
Hot Damn!- so when listening to this one, it honestly feels like a continuation of the last album only here the band seems like they are tighter. I mean you can understand what singer Keith Buckley is saying better here than on Last Night. It’s still an all out angry record and it’s definitely a band who is finding their stride. I give this 8/10
Standouts: Off Broadway, Hit of the Search Party, Ebolarama
Gutter Phenomenon- now here we go. This record is definitely a huge step up from the last two. I remember seeing the video for the song Kill the Music and buying the album not long after. I think I played it nonstop for weeks after getting it. If you want to get into this band, then this album is the perfect place to start. Like to me this is how I know Every Time I Die. I give it 10/10
Standouts: Kill The Music, Tusk And Temper, The New Black
The Big Dirty- let’s see first impressions of this one were “it’s not quite as good as Gutter.” However listening to it now, I think that it’s actually a little heavier than Gutter just not as catchy. I will also say that the start of this album doesn’t flow as well as it does towards the end. I don’t know I feel like if the songs were more catchier and the hooks were better, then this might be a better album. On a positive note, this does feel like a sort of continuation of the previous album and at the end of the day, this is a good record. I give this 8/10
Standouts: A Gentleman’s Sport, We’rewolf, Buffalo Gals
New Junk Aesthetic- this one has almost a metalcore meets stoner rock feel to it. I personally think that this one is a step up from Dirty and I know that they changed record labels so perhaps that had something to do with it. One thing to note is that Greg Pucciatto from Dillinger Escape Plan guest vocals on the song Marvelous Slut and Pete Wentz (from Fallout Boy of all bands) guest vocals on the song After One Quarter of a Revolution. Overall, this one is a great album and there is definitely something for everyone here. I give this 9/10
Standouts: Marvelous Slut, Goddamn Kids These Days, Wanderlust
Ex Lives- if you can believe it, this record seems to be their most serious one yet. This came out shortly after Keith was done doing The Damned Things so I’m pretty sure he brought some of that into this album. I’d also say that so far this album seems to be their most melodic album with some of the songs being slowed down and there’s more singing here than your usual ETID record. Definitely a very solid effort and I give it 9/10
Standouts: Underwater Bimbos From Outer Space, Touch Yourself, I Suck (Blood)
From Parts Unknown- I feel like ETID have yet to put out a bad album. Where Ex Lives ends, Parts begins. It seems like they kind of go up and down here where the songs are done in their style but are fast then slow and fast again. But where some bands fail at doing this kind of music, these guys manage to nail it. I’m pretty sure that when this first came out, the songs live were fantastic. Another very worthy follow up I give it 8/10
Standouts: Moor, Decayin’ With the Boys, Old Light
Low Teens- take everything from Big Dirty and beyond and mix it all together and this is the album you get. Like I said earlier, I don’t think it’s possible for these guys to make a bad record and each one just shows them evoking while still staying true to their original sound. If you haven’t checked out this album do yourself a favor and listen to it. I give this 9.5/10
Standouts: Glitches, Petal, I Didn’t Want To Join Your Stupid Cult Anyway
I think that it’s safe to say that with these guys you definitely know what you’re getting with a couple surprises. Now their studio albums are amazing but if you ever get the chance to see them live, go see them because their live shows are just as good if not better.
