Blood Red Throne

What do you get when the guitarist of Satyricon and the bass player from Emperor decide to form their own band? You get the band Blood Red Throne and that’s who is up on the chopping block today. Now the two previously mentioned bands are black metal bands but these guys decided to go the death metal route. So let’s take a look………

Monument Of Death- so as mentioned earlier, the two guys who formed this band are from black metal groups who decided to make a death metal band. The best comparison I can make is that if Cannibal Corpse had thrash and Swedish death metal sounds mixed together. It’s a really cool record and definitely not what I was expecting when I first heard this one. This a record that is definitely worth checking out. I’ll give this one 10/10

Standouts: Portrait Of A Killer, Mary Whispers Death,  Monument Of Death

Affiliated With The Suffering- this one ditches the thrash and goes for a more straight forward death metal sound. Like this one could be easily mistaken for a Deicide or Cannibal Corpse record and that’s not a bad thing. You can tell that they take a lot of influence from the American Death Metal bands on this record. I do prefer the previous record but this is a decent follow up. I’ll give this one 8/10

Standouts: A Dream Of Death, Gather The Dead, Hate Tank

Altered Genesis- again this one continues with the standard death metal sound. I’d say that they have that Cannibal Corpse thing going for them and one thing that you can hear on some of the songs are the bass which is a rarity. Now to me this isn’t a generic sounding record as the riffs and guitar work have that Swedish tone/sound. I’ll give this one 9/10

Standouts: Mephitication, Flesh To Destroy, Smite

Come Death- while this one does continue with what they were doing on the previous records, you can definitely hear some black metal inspired vocals.  One thing on this record is that the riffs do seem to be a little more catchier. I don’t know I do like this record just not as much as the last couple so I’ll give this one 7/10

Standouts: Deranged Assassin, Taste Of God, Disincarnated

Souls Of Damnation- so this one is a step up from the previous record and here it’s definitely got that death metal sound going for it but I feel like we are hearing more black metal influences on here. The drum and guitar work is pretty standard on here and again you can hear the bass standout on some of the songs. One thing I will say is that the song Human Fraud definitely has a Where The Slime Live feel to it. I give this one 8/10

Standouts: Harme, Ten Steps Of Purgatory, Human Fraud

Brutalian Regime- I mean if I’m being completely honest for this record, this is one that is pretty much more of the same. Like they don’t really try anything new here. Yes it’s a good record and the solos on some of the songs are really good but again this is more of the same. That said, I’ll give this one 8/10

Standouts: Proliferated Unto Hemophobia, Graweworld, Twisted Truth

Blood Red Throne- ah yes the obligatory self titled record and now we’re getting somewhere. This record definitely has that blackened death metal feel to it however, the Swedish inspired riffs do make a return also. The vocals are also deeper as well. Overall, this is a great record and it’s a refreshing change from what the last couple records sounded like. 9/10

Standouts: Torturewhore, In Hell I Roam, March Of The Undying

Union Of Flesh And Machine- this one definitely has more or the catchy Swedish death metal style guitar work. This one also continues with the deeper death metal style vocals and you can also hear the bass. I would say that this is also a continuation of the self titled record too. I’ll give this one 9/10

Standouts: Patriotic Hatred, Exposed Mutation, Martyrized

Fit To Kill- finally we get some sort of thrashiness in some of the songs. I feel like for this one they brought back elements of the first record and incorporated them on this one. This was a really fun record to listen to so I’ll give this one 10/10

Standouts: Requiem Mass, Movement Of The Parasites, Killing Machine Pt. 2

Imperial Congregation- so for this record, there’s kind of a mix of everything here.  You have the catchiness of their first record as well as the death and black metal elements. I will say that the solos are very epic sounding and the vocals aren’t quite as deep as they have been on previous albums. Definitely check this record out. I’ll give this 10/10

Standouts: 6:7, Conquered Malevolence, Consumed Illusion

This was a band that I discovered while browsing similar artists for another band. I would definitely say that I enjoyed this one because the songs are just so heavy and the riffage is badass. If you like Cannibal Corpse but with Swedish death metal style guitar work then I’d definitely check these guys out.
