You could honestly say that the very first Boston album is a perfect album from start to finish. Boston is one of those bands that I feel doesn’t get brought up enough and they are number 71 of my top 100. Honestly any song off that first album could be song pick of the week. Let’s take a look………
This was one of those bands where I had a really hard time picking a song but ultimately I decided to go with the song “Foreplay/Long Time.” The best way I can describe this is if you take bands like Yes and Led Zeppelin, mix them together, this would be the end result. The instrumental part that is “Foreplay” is a perfect introduction to “Long Time” and I can see why both are combined. According to guitarist Tom Scholz, “Foreplay” was the first song he ever recorded and it was done on a two track machine in his basement. In fact the album came out in 1978 but “Foreplay” was actually written back in 1969. He also sang the vocals for “Long Time” in his basement during the demo sessions for the album however, his friend Brad Delp (who ended up being the lead singer) proved to be a much better singer. As I said, this was one of those times where I really had a hard time picking a song for Song Pick Of The Week with this band. Definitely give this and the rest of the album a listen if it’s been awhile.
