Interpol

Up next is a band where I’ve really only heard a couple songs that were played on KROQ back in like 2004\5. The band up on the chopping block is the band Interpol so with that let’s take a look…….

Turn On The Bright Lights- so if you’ve only heard their songs Evil and Slow Hands don’t go into this band expecting all their songs to sound like that. This album is kinda slower in parts and feels like an indie rock record but it’s actually not bad it’s just softer than what I would’ve expected. Either way a unique first record and it gets 7/10

Standouts: PDA, Roland, The New

Antics- ah yes I remember the songs Evil and Slow Hands always being played on KROQ back in like 2005 and especially when the Weenie Roast got closer. They were there at that Weenie Roast but I honestly don’t remember them. Now as far as the rest of the album goes, it’s actually really good. Kinda slow in some parts but definitely not as dark as the first album. I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: Public Pervert, Narc, Length Of Love

Our Love To Admire- I feel like this is one of those albums where they had to go in a different direction of sorts after making an album like Antics. Now it doesn’t really stray so far away from Antics but it is definitely a little different. For one thing, it’s slowed down and another thing to note is that it’s got keyboards. I don’t think it’s quite as good as Antics but it’s certainly one of their better albums. I’ll give it 8/10

Standouts: Heinrich Maneuver, Mammoth, Who Do You Think

Interpol- ok so this one has a very dark tone and I mean it when I say this album is slow and BORING. The songs are dreary and overall it’s not that great which is too bad because the last three albums were so good. I’m giving this one 1/10 and that’s only because I’m giving them props for trying something different

Standouts:

El Pintor- so this one isn’t as slow as the last album and it’s a step up but not by much. With this album, it almost has a jazzy feel to it? I don’t know I can’t really explain it. Like I said, a step up from the last record but not by much. I’ll give it 4/10

Standouts: Same Town New Story

Marauder- if I could sum up this record it would be cool name, average album. I get that they are trying something different on each album (or so it would seem) but to me it gets boring real quick and this album is no exception. I’ll give this one 4/10

Standouts: The Rover

The Other Side Of Make Believe- to me this one almost feels like a B-Sides of Marauder. One thing I find unique about this band is the singers baritone voice and on here you don’t get a lot of it. He just sounds bored and this record is just not good. I can’t really think of anything that I liked about this one so I’ll give it 0/10

Standouts:

To me the only albums worth a damn are the first three which is kind of too bad because had they continued the trend/sound then they could’ve had some killer records but they didn’t and we get this instead. Now I’m sure their die hard fans love all these records but I couldn’t get into them. Glad I gave them a shot but I probably won’t go back to them anytime soon.

Final Grade: D+
