When you go and browse YouTube for Great Performances On TV, it’s really cool to see which late night talk shows had certain bands perform. Personally, I feel like Conan O’Brien had some of the better bands perform on his show. I mean, come on where else are you really going to see Slipknot play “The Heretic Anthem” for a bunch of people that probably didn’t really know who they were at the time? Let’s take a look……
I do have to say it is pretty impressive that Conan O’Brien would have a band like Slipknot play “The Heretic Anthem.” I mean when we’re talking about this particular song if you really think about it, this was an era of Slipknot where are they pretty much hated one another. Go back and listen to the Iowa album. There is some anger and rage on that record. If you go back and read the making of that album pretty much everybody was either on drugs or dealing with depression. The fact that they made it out alive after the recording of this album is nothing short of a miracle and picking this particular song I think is just absolutely awesome. I mean hearing them sing “if you’re 555 then I’m 666” on national television for an audience that doesn’t really know who they are (for the most part) is so damn cool. I am curious since this performance was in 2001 if anybody was really super offended. You know there’s always those parents rights or whatever stupid parental guidance group that always has to complain about something. I’m sure that they look alone probably freaked out one or two uptight people and I love that. Perhaps nothing became of it. I don’t really know but this performance is just absolutely bad ass! I mean they were aggressive, angry, and I know that this is probably the closest to death metal on public television. Either way, check out this performance or if you have before and don’t remember it give it another watch. This is Slipknot at their angriest!!
