Up next on the chopping block is a band that’s been thawed from their Antarctic prison and invented music. Obviously I’m talking about the band GWAR and they are really one of those bands that you need to see live because their live shows are awesome. Anyway let’s take a look…….
Hell-O- well let’s see here. This album is just ok. It’s got a punkish sound to it but it’s kinda weird. You can tell that this is their first album but it’s not exactly where I would start if I was delving into this band for the first time. I’ll give it 6/10
Standouts: Slutman City, GWAR Theme, Techno’s Song
Scumdogs Of The Universe- ok so here they still have a sort of punk flavor to their songs but it definitely seems like they are coming together and making a more put together album. This a really fun album and that’s why I’m giving it 9/10
Standouts: The Salamanizer, Vlad The Impaler, Sexecutioner
America Must Be Destroyed- so apparently this is about Oderus Urungus’s problems with the North Carolina police and the cuttlefish of Cthulhu (look up the story it’s awesome). Anyway, it’s an offensive album and it’s weird. Also I freaking love the album title it’s offensive and I’m sure it pissed off a lot of people and I hope it still does. I’ll give this one 9.5/10
Standouts: Crack In The Egg, Ham On The Bone, Have You Seen Me
This Toilet Earth- I’d say that this one is their most punk sounding record. This one is also about them fighting a villain named Skulhedface. It’s a fun album so I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: Saddam A GoGo, Bad Bad Men, Krak Down
Ragnarök- so this story is about a comet that is heading towards earth and it turns out to be a robot. I think the first video of theirs I saw was Meat Sandwich and it’s hilarious. Overall, this album is not as good as some of their others but I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Meat Sandwich, Martyr Dumb, Fire In The Loins
Carnival Of Chaos- I think it’s safe to say that there are a lot of different styles of music going on here. I really wanted to like this one a lot more but I couldn’t. As a whole it’s just ok. There are some great songs and then there are some that are skipable. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Penguin Attack, Billy Bad Ass, In Her Fear
We Kill Everything- for some reason I got bored with this one really quickly. It starts off ok but then kinda takes a nosedive. I don’t know maybe I just need to revisit it again but it’s not their best. I’ll give it 5/10
Standouts: Babyraper, Fishfuck
Violence Has Arrived- now we are getting into metal territory. This one ditches the silly story lines and just goes for GWAR being full on violent which is awesome. I will say that the riffs on here are badass and they now are sounding like a metal band. I’ll give this one 9/10
Standouts: Battlelust, Immortal Corrupter, The Song Of Words
War Party- this was my first introduction to GWAR and in fact I think this was the first album I bought of theirs. Again it’s going full on metal and the guitar work is really good on here. I will say that it’s their most political record. I’ll give this one 10/10
Standouts: Bring Back The Bomb, Womb With A View, Krosstika
Beyond Hell- this album is a rock opera and it’s about GWAR going to hell and fighting their through and coming back to life. It’s fun but also really heavy. There is even a cover of Alice Cooper’s Schools Out. I’ll give this one 10/10
Standouts: War Is All We Know, Go To Hell, Tormentor
Lust In Space- this is a really fun album and it’s about GWAR finding a ship and trying to leave earth. The music is really heavy as it has been the last couple albums. Another solid release. I’ll give it 9.5/10
Standouts: Let Us Slay, The Uberklaw, Make A Child Cry
Bloody Pit Of Horror- this one does not have a story to it. It’s just GWAR being GWAR. It is however the last album to have Flattus Maximus (Cory Smoot) before he died. As far as the a.bum goes, it’s got some hits and misses. It’s not their best but not their worst. I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Zombies March, Beat You To Death, KZ Necromancer
Battle Maximus- so this one is a tribute to Flattus Maximus as well as the first album with new guitarist Pustulus Maximus. I will say that he does do a good job replacing Flattus. The album overall is pretty good and there is a song with Mark Morton on it too. This is also the last album to have Oderus Urungus (Dave Brockie) on it. I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: Madness At The Core Of Time, They Swallow The Sun, Torture
The Blood Of Gods- so this is the first to feature Blöthar The Berserker on vocals and I must say he does a pretty good job. I mean he’s no Oderus but then again who is? This one is about humanity rising against GWAR after the death of Oderus. It’s got more of a hard rock meets punk sound to it but overall, not bad. I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: War On GWAR, Viking Death Machine, Auroch
The New Dark Ages- this one musically continues where the last one left off. To me this one does get a bit weird at the end which kinda ruins it. Like they could’ve left off the last few songs and been fine. I’ll give it 8/10
Standouts: Berserker Mode, Completely Fucked, New Dark Age
There are lots of people who write this band off as gimmicky or a joke when in fact they are far from it. They actually are a very talented band and are great musicians. If you have never been to a GWAR show you must go they are loads of fun and you get squirted with fake blood. It’s awesome. RIP Oderus Urungus and Flattus Maximus
