You know, after seeing the greatness that was John Bush playing Anthrax songs, it reminded me of That One Time when Vinnie Paul and Pat Lachlan (singer for Damageplan) jammed the song”A New Level.” I don’t know why I was thinking of this song maybe that’s because it’s a bad ass song but either way let’s take a look……..
So looking into it further, it turns out that Anthrax played this song more than once. This particular moment was during their Greater Of Two Evils Tour in 2005. This took place on February 23, 2005 in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom which means that it was just a little over 2 months since the tragic killing of Dime. Since Vinnie Paul jumped behind the drum kit, Charlie Benante played guitar. Being a gear head I can’t help but wonder if Scott Ian switched from Jackson Guitars to Washburn Guitars because of Dimebag Darrell. It was during this time that he played Washburn guitars and in fact, I believe he played some of Dime’s personal guitars or at least given one (from what I heard). Pat Lachman did co-vocals with John Bush and this is one hell of a performance. Looking at the date, it wouldn’t be long until the classic lineup reunion with Joey Belladonna and Dan Spitz which makes this particular performance all that more special. Oddly enough, they would also jam this song or at least part of it during that reunion tour. This particular performance where Pat and John share vocals is just so bad ass and if you’re both a Pantera and Anthrax fan then you’ll definitely enjoy this one. Another thing that I cannot seem to find is that of Anthrax jamming this song during the reunion with Joey. Hmm I wonder why?? RIP Dime and Vinnie!!
