Deathcore is one of those sub-genres where there aren’t many good bands. Sorry but that’s just fact however, one such band that is just absolutely badass is Whitechapel and they are in at number 64/100. For Song Pick Of The Week, I’ve chosen one of my all time favorite songs “The Saw Is The Law.” Let’s take a look……
When I very first listened to this band, I really was not a fan and all it really took to win me over was when a friend of mine sent me a video of the song “Possibilities Of An Impossible Existence.” Shortly after hearing that song, the album Our Endless War was released and the song “The Saw Is The Law” is what made me a fan. To me this is the perfect Whitechapel song because it has everything that I love about this band. It has the low tuned guitars, extra thick bass lines, super heavy drum work and of course Phil Bozeman’s badass vocals. I really like it when he sings really fast and what also makes him one of the best vocalists is the fact that he annunciates. That is something that is extremely rare in extreme music and he just does it so flawlessly. The song itself is about their roots in Tennessee and the saw representing their cutting edge and southern heritage. Phil Bozeman has also described it as an “ode to ourselves as well as being a celebration of putting the Tennessee metal scene on the map.” I think what make Whitechapel so special is that they were never afraid to branch out and try different things. Songs like this prove exactly that and definitely give this one a listen because as I said before, it is the perfect Whitechapel song.
