Song Pick Of The Week: Vital Remains- Where Is Your God Now?/Icons Of Evil

So it’s time for yet again another Song Pick Of The Week and in keeping with my countdown coming in at number 94 is the band Vital Remains.  Sometimes you just want a straight up good old-fashioned American death metal and that’s precisely what you get with this band.  So with that, let’s take a look………

Song: Where Is Your God Now?/Icons Of Evil

Album: Icons Of Evil

Upon first listen, you would think that they are just a generic death metal band and to some degree they are. What sort of makes this band stand out from their peers is that their newer albums almost have like a cinematic feel especially for their opening songs hence the reason why I picked this song.  Where Is Your God Now is what opens the album and it’s not a song but rather a sample from Mel Gibson‘s The Passion Of The Christ mixed with a snippet of The Exorcist. Honestly, it’s kind of a cool way to start an album.  Now, of course, the album cover is quite graphic (which is why I had to find the alternate album cover so as to not get my post taken down on social media) and if you haven’t figured it out by now, this band is definitely a satanic death metal band. In fact it’s so much so that it would probably freak out those hard-core Christian/religious fanatics. Not to get too much into it, but in today’s age of religion/Christian signaling, I gravitate more towards a band like this. What makes this song somewhat unique is that it’s a bit longer than your average death metal song but it also has some really cool guitar work from Dave Suzuki (an extremely underrated guitar player if you ask me).  Also, we have Glen Benton (of Deicide) doing vocals on this album and they are absolutely bad ass. If you’re looking for an evil satanic death metal band that puts out badass songs, then this might just be right up your alley. Now I have been fortunate enough to see them back in like 2007 and I thought that they were great. The vocalist that they had I thought did a fine job and I do wish that this band would come back and tour.
