On April 3, 2026, the latest album from one of my favorite bands is out. The band on the Chopping Block is Nervosa and I’ve really become a fan of this band. I’ve been lucky now to have finally seen them live where they absolutely killed it!! Let’s take a look……..
Time Of Death- this is their first song EP and it’s only three songs but they’re 3 great songs. Definitely a great preview of things to come. It’s trashy, but with big slow crushing riffs mixed in. A great way to start.
Previous Score: 9/10
New Score: 9.5/10
Victim Of Yourself- I think I said in my original review of this album that if you’re into bands like Powertrip or Havok, then you’ll definitely like this album. This is definitely one of those times where listening to it a second time made me appreciate it that much more. Now while it is a full on thrash metal album it actually has some groove to it. Again, much like the previous release, this album is full of great big riffs and I am a big fan of those.
Previous Score: 10/10
New Score: 9.5/10
Standouts: Victim Of Yourself, Twisted Values, Deep Misery
Agony- I feel like this one has more of a grittier tone to it. it’s weird because the production on the last record seemed a bit more polished but here it’s rougher. I actually do like the way this album sounds and it definitely goes for more of that crunchier sound if that makes any sense. Definitely an excellent follow up and I feel like this is an album that gets overlooked. One thing to know on this album is the bonus tracks actually have clean vocals and they actually sound pretty good.
Previous Score: 9/10
New Score: 9.5/10
Standouts: Hostages, Theory Of Conspiracy, Cyberwar
Downfall Of Mankind- I forgot how dark this album is. This one definitely their most cohesive record and again out of the three releases so far it has the darkest tone. Interestingly enough, this would be the last release with Fernanda Lira (bass and vocals) and with drummer Luana Dametto before they went to go form the band Crypta. But aside from that it’s darker and it’s actually their slowest which is not a bad thing. Again, the last song also has clean vocals and this really does go to show that they could actually do songs with clean vocals if they wanted to.
Previous Score: 9.5/10
New Score: 10/10
Standouts: Horrordome, Vultures, Enslave
Perpetual Chaos- so this would be the first record without Fernanda and instead we get Diva Satanica of Bloodhunter on vocals. I do have to say she does a fantastic job and I am sure live, she could easily sing Fernanda’s songs. This one is still another dark album, but you can almost tell there’s a bit of Swedish influence. There’s like Swedish influences as well as old-school Slayer. It’s a really cool record and this was the record that got me into this band in the first place.
Previous Score: 10/10
New Score: 10/10
Standouts: Venomous, Kings Of Domination, Time To Fight
Jailbreak- admittedly, I was not sold on the record title when I first heard it. I mean come on there’s already another album by another band called Jailbreak. However, if you can look past it (and I would like to think anybody could), this is a great record. Now we basically have another new lineup as well as a second guitar player. I do have to say having two guitar players in this band. Guitar player Prika Amaral now plays guitar and his vocals and I must say she does an excellent job. It is always a little skeptical when a guitar player takes up vocals, but she manages to do a great job and she can definitely sing any Nervosa song. Now I would say this album definitely picks up where the last album left off and just keeps going. There’s maybe not as much as Swedish elements and you definitely get the feeling that this band has now found its groove. There’s even a song with a guest guitar solo from Gary Holt and another song featuring Lena Scissorhands (Infected Rain) on guest vocals. Definitely a great album to check out and I’m gonna give this 9.5/10.
Standouts: Suffocare, Superstition Failed, Kill Or Die
Slave Machine- so here we are……..the latest and greatest from Nervosa!! This one doesn’t quite pick up where the last album left off but rather feels as if they built off of it. The last album had two guitar players and this does too and you can definitely hear them utilizing that aspect a lot more. There’s also some melodic parts on here which I wasn’t expecting but it works really really well. You definitely hear bands like Slayer and Destruction on here and having this solid of a lineup for two albums in a row makes for great thrash/death metal!! This is definitely one of those album albums that the more you listen to it the more you enjoy it and find new things to like about it. Therefore I am giving this album 9.5/10.
Standouts: Impending Doom, Beast Of Burden, Speak In Fire
Bands like this are a perfect example of when it comes to great metal the ladies definitely give the men a run for their money. Much like other bands that I have in constant rotation, I think I was just looking for something new and exciting and when this band came on my radar, they definitely filled that void. Now I know that this band has had many lineup changes over the years and the lineup they have now is absolutely perfect and I hope it stays that way for a very, very long time. I think having a second guitar player gives even more of an edge. Having Emmelie Herwegh (also of Sisters Of Suffocation) as an additional bass player also adds even more of a dynamic. You don’t see too many bands with two bass players but it’s great because when Hel Pyre is unavailable then they have Emmelie and both are great musicians that bring a lot to this band. Whatever lineup you like or prefer, you honestly can’t go wrong with any and all of these albums. If you have never seen this band live, I would definitely encourage one to do so because not only do they have bad ass albums, but they put on a killer live show.
