Up on the chopping block is Spiritbox. Now I did review their album Eternal Blue for a Mixed Bag Review but I decided to review their EPs and their newest album. So with that, let’s take a look…….
Spiritbox- if you want almost atmospheric metal ore, then this might be the album for you. Seriously, that’s the best way to describe this EP. This one is definitely a good preview of things to come and I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: The Mara Effect Pt.2, Aphids, The Beauty Of Suffering
Singles Collection- another EP and to me, a lot of the songs start off great, then drag a bit then pick up. Fortunately, this is only a 5 song EP but even though it’s called Singles Collection are the songs on here actually singles or is it just an ironic name? Anyway, this one is just ok and I’ll give it 7/10
Standouts: Belcarra, Bleach Bath
Eternal Blue- ok so this was where I first heard of them and I be,icee when I originally reviewed this album, I said it has kind of a Deftones feel to it and I maintain that still. This is definitely a different metal album in that it’s not quite like those annoying operatic metal bands (cough cough Evanescence cough cough) but different enough that it appeals to most people.
Previous Score: 9/10
New Score: 9.5/10
Standouts: Holy Roller, Hurt You, Halcyon
The Fear Of Fear- this one combines a couple different styles that being metalcore and djent which is pretty impressive considering that this only really a 6 song EP. I feel like at this point they should’ve just combined all their EPs into one album but whatever. I’ll give it 9/10
Standouts: Jaded, Angel Eyes
Tsunami Sea- again there’s kind of a lot going on with this one. There are a good amount of riffs that remind me of a band like Meshuggah and there are many other styles as well. Is this a mind blowing album? No not really but it is a really good album. I’ll give it 9.5/10
Standouts: Soft Spine, Fata Morgana, A Haven With Two Faces
One thing about these albums is that there is always a lot going on which is a nice change of pace. I will say that Courtney’s vocals are great and absolutely fit the music. Now at the time of writing this I have not actually seen them live but am very much looking forward to doing so just to see how they are. Who knows they could be one of those bands that are better live than on album? We shall see.
