So we come to the conclusion of my three part series. Have you figured it out? Well if you haven’t that’s fine. The band up for review is the supergroup Velvet Revolver and I’m sure you’re wondering why would I do a band review of a band with only 2 albums? Well because they are all connected and I like them. In case you don’t know who they are (although one should) it’s Scott Weiland (STP) on vocals, Slash, Duff, Matt Sorum (GNR) on guitar, bass, and drums, and Dave Kushner (Wasted Youth) on second guitar. So here we go……..
Contraband- so this album came out after The Spaghetti Incident from Guns N Roses and Shangri-LA DEE DA from Stone Temple Pilots. I remember hearing the single Slither on KROQ (back when they played good music) and went out and bought the album. This album to me is a great rock record and there are some who will disagree with me but I don’t care i love this record. I mean it’s basically the voice of Stone Temple Pilots with the music of Guns N Roses it’s great. Anyway as for the songs, yes the riffs are basically recycled Guns n Roses riffs but they’re good riffs. I give this one 10/10
Standouts: Big Machine, Set Me Free, Dirty Little Thing
Libertad- so this one is not as strong as Contraband and in fact there’s a lot of filler on this album but the songs that are worth listening too are good songs. While not as strong as Contraband, this album has its moments but it seems a little rushed. Overall a decent album and I give this one 7/10
Standouts: Get Out the Door, Spay, Let It Roll
This one is probably the shortest review but it does complete the circle and I feel like I’m in a minority on this band and that’s ok. I think they put out two solid albums out and I kinda wish they would’ve put out another one or at least an EP. Anyway I’m not going to bother ranking 2 albums but I think Contraband is the better of the two.
