Does anyone remember when Green Day used to make great music?? Well that’s more of a rhetorical question but seriously does anybody remember when they had more of a punk edge? I thought for this Closer, we’d take a look at one of my favorite Green Day songs “Walking Contradiction.” Let’s take a look…….
So the other day I was talking with a friend about the early days of bands like Blink-182 and Green Day if you really go back and listen to the Insomniac album, (at least for me), it’s almost like stepping back into a Time Machine. This is one of those albums that absolutely takes me back to when I first bought it in 1995. Personally, I think this is their best and “Walking Contradiction” is one of my favorite songs. I also remember when the music video came out on MTV (yes the M in MTV actually stood for Music) and watching all of these other really crappy videos just for the premiere of it. It was a magical, simpler time, and much like the video, it’s just so much fun. It’s basically the band members walking around Los Angeles, unaware that there are explosions, chaos, and mayhem. At the end, they all meet up, get in a car, and drive off still unaware of all, the destruction. If you ask me, they absolutely need to play this song a lot more. Hell they need to play more songs off of this album than just “Brain Stew.” According to Setlist.FM, they’ve only played this song a total of 12 times the last being in London of 2023. Honestly, this has got to be the perfect closer to an otherwise perfect album.
