Up next on the chopping is another band that I would say is adjacent/similar to bands like Converge or even Botch. Now this is a band I have only really heard of and not really listened to their music and the band on the chopping block is a band called Coalesce. Again going into it I hadn’t really heard much so with that let’s take a look…….
Give Them Rope- OK so as I said, in my intro, this band, kind of reminds me of Botch and this is a perfect example. Now vocally, you can understand him a little bit more than you can with a band like Botch. This is what I would call I guess a chaotic sort of album except there’s a pretty good amount of structure here. My only real complaint about this album is that it does tend to drag a bit but aside from that it’s not bad. I’m gonna go ahead and give this one 8/10.
Standouts: Have Patience, Still It Sells, For All You Are
Functioning On Impatience- I would say that this one is a slight step up from the last album and by that I mean, it just seems more cohesive. The vocals are a little bit easier to understand and the band actually seems a little tighter. I will say it’s rather short only clocking in at about 20 minutes, but I actually kind of like that because everything is just short but sweet. I’m going to give this one, 8.5/10.
Standouts: You Can’t Kill Us All, Measured In Gray, On Being A Bastard
0:12 Revolution In Just Listening- there’s something about this one that I don’t know feels like they’ve kind of found their sound if that makes any sense. What I like about this album is that the songs tend to flow a lot more and there’s almost a certain kind of groove to this as well, which is really cool. Definitely a step up from the previous couple album albums and I’m gonna give this one 9/10.
Standouts: Burn Everything That Bears Our Name, Sometimes Selling Out Is Waking Up, Cowards.com
There Is Nothing New Under The Sun+- so this is a covers album and the reason why I’m including it in this review is because well it’s just one more album to listen and another one to add to the ranking. Now they do cover some pretty interesting bands, such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath and if you ever really wanted to hear how those songs sound by a metal core band then definitely check this out. It’s interesting to say the least and I gotta give them props for doing the songs that they did on this album. Although I will say some of the songs that they have are a little on the cringe side. I’m gonna give this one 7/10
Standouts: Supernaut, Immigrant Song, Bob Junior
Ox- this one kind of slows things down a tad and it’s sort of is an amalgamation of everything that they’ve done. I don’t know. I just really couldn’t get into this one as much as I wanted to. I mean, this isn’t a bad album or anything. I just thought it seemed a little long and it kind of dragged too. Overall, the album has some great moments but as a whole, it’s just OK. I’m gonna give this one 7/10.
Standouts: Designed To Break A Man, Questions To Root Out Fools, The Villain We Won’t Destroy
This was another one of those short but sweet reviews and I gotta say for a band that has such a small amount of albums they’re five pretty good albums. I only wonder how they would be live, but it seems to me that they are broken up and are not going to reunite anytime soon. Either way there’s some really cool albums that if you are unfamiliar with, give them a listen, you might actually enjoy it.
