Remembering MTV: Summer Beach House: No Doubt

Oh MTV in the 90’s. There really was something magical about the 90s and MTV.  I remember watching the MTV Summer Beach House program at my grandparents house and seeing all of these great artists like Bush, No Doubt, and Garbage. So I thought since we are in June that what better way than to take a look at some of those old performances.  Let’s take a look………

Thank God for YouTube because when you think about it, you can actually go and sort of travel back in time a bit to see these old programs and performances.  I thought to kick things off we would look at No Doubt performing both “Spiderwebs” and “Sailin On.”  Now the performance of both songs was during the Tragic Kingdom era and that is an album that I do go back to every now and then. Yes I know that “Spiderwebs” is overplayed now and it’s one of those that I don’t really listen to that often because it will get stuck in your head. However, at the time it was one of those songs that I really enjoyed.  I never got to see No Doubt during this time, so this was probably the closest that I could get. Then of course we come to the song “Sailin On” which is actually a Bad Brains cover and it’s a pretty fun cover. They do a great job with it, and they even put their own little spin on it. This could never happen now with this band, especially given Gwen Stefani’s popularity.  But watching this performance in particular just shows how they started out and I really miss this era of this band.  I miss the days when No Doubt was just a regular band and they would play covers from bands like Bad Brains. Somehow, I feel like this band lost their way and that really is too bad. I also really miss when MTV had shows like Summer Beach House and had music based programs. Sadly, that channel has become a relic and it is unfortunate that we will never have that again.
