Weezer

Alright so up next on the chopping block is the band Weezer. This is a band that I remember listening to when I was a lot younger and I always liked what I heard so,let’s take a look……

Blue- well let’s see what can I say about this album?  It’s a classic. There are some bands who’s a lot of their hits are on one album and I would say that this applies to this album. There are so many classic songs on here so that said, I’ll give this one 10/10

Standouts: In The Garage, Surf Wax America, Holiday

Pinkerton- so how do you follow up a great album? Well you make another in the same vein. This one doesn’t have as many hits or classics as the last record but this is a great follow up and definitely worth a listen. It’s definitely getting a 10/10

Standouts: El Scorcho, Tired Of Sex, Pink Triangle

Green- like the Blue album, this one has a good amount of their radio friendly hits.  Overall though, it’s not quite as strong as Blue or Pinkerton but it is still very much enjoyable. I did enjoy this one a lot and I could see myself revisiting this one again. I’ll give this 9/10

Standouts: Photograph, Knockdown Dragout, Don’t Let Go

Maladroit- I honestly didn’t really know about this one when it came out and there is always that question as to whether or not it’s going to be good. Fortunately this is another enjoyable record and I feel like it’s one of those overlooked records.  And while it’s not quite up there with the first two, this is still a worthwhile record. I give this one 9/10

Standouts: Dope Nose, Space Rock, Possibilities

Make Believe- ah yes 2005. The year I got my first car that could actually get KROQ and aside from all the badass metal records that came out that year, Weezer gave us this. The reason I bring any of this up is because this is the record that has the Beverly Hills and Perfect Situation songs on it and they were always being played on the radio. While both are great songs I will say that they are overplayed (the former more so than the latter). This is a very pop sounding record and it’s not bad just not as good as past records. I’ll give this one 7/10

Standouts: Peace, My Best Friend, Haunt You Everyday

Red- another color album. I really wanted to like this one a lot more. The first half of this record is really good but then it kind of feels like they put a lot of filler to pad out the rest of the record. I’d say give this one a listen but like I said the first half is good then the rest of it is meh. I’ll give this 7/10

Standouts: Pork and Beans, Troublemaker, Everybody Get Dangerous

Raditude- let me just start off by saying that I cannot stand the opening song on this album. Could be because it’s one of their songs that’s so overplayed and the lyrics suck. Anyway, the rest of the album is just ok. This is kind of a weird record for them because there are a couple songs that have Hindi parts and some that are remixes. I don’t know it’s different but overall it’s just average. I’ll give this one 5/10

Standouts: Let It All Hang Out, The Girl Got Hot

Death To False Metal- I guess this is just a collection of rarities. Of course I found out after I listened to it all the way through. I didn’t like this one and I’d say that this one is easily skipable. I’m giving this one 0/10

Hurley- ok so I guess one could say that False Metal and this one are companion pieces because this one is boring. Again another one that is skipable. I don’t know I personally didn’t enjoy this one. I give this another 0/10

Everything Will Be Alright In The End- ok so this one does have moments that remind me of an album like the Green album. It’s certainly a step up from the last two that’s for sure but then again that’s not really saying a whole lot. Overall, yes it’s a better record but at the end of the day, it’s just ok. I’ll give this one 3/10

Standouts: Back To The Shack

White- now so far all the albums that are named after colors have been pretty good. So how does this one compare to those albums? Well not very good. The other color albums are a lot better but this one is hit or miss and unfortunately it’s a lot of misses. This one I found kind of boring. I’ll give this one 1/10

Standouts: California Kids

Pacific Daydream- I just want to say that I hate the song on here called Happy Hour. Like seriously I hate that song and that’s probably because that song was played so much on the radio and because the restaurant I was working at had a happy hour and it was always chaotic. Now aside from that shitty song, the rest of the album again is just meh. I feel like they’ve gotten too soft. This is another boring record. I’ll give this one 0/10

Teal- well I guess it was a matter of time before they would eventually put out a covers album. This has some interesting choices and some are actually not bad. I do remember their cover of Africa by Toto getting a lot of radio AirPlay but I couldn’t stand the original nor can I stand this one either. Their cover of Paranoid is interesting I must say. I’ll give this 5/10

Standouts: Paranoid, Stand By Me

Black- an interesting choice calling this The Black album. I mean when I think of Black album Metallica comes to mind. Like their other albums, this is another one that I couldn’t wait to end. The songs are just too poppy for my taste. I’ll give this 1/10

Standouts: Zombie Bastards

OK Human- this one is another pretty forgettable record. Again this one is just boring and I wouldn’t waste my time with it. You might like it but I didn’t. Another 0/10

Van Weezer- is this supposed to be a tribute to Van Halen?  I will say that there is definitely more guitars on here and this one has more of a hard rock sound going for it. I did enjoy this one a lot more than the last few records and in parts I get Maladroit vibes. I’d say it’s sort of a step in the right direction. I’ll give this one 3/10

Standouts: Hero, 1 More Hit

Even though a lot of their records got zeroes from me, the albums that didn’t I enjoyed especially the first 3. Now I’m not sure how these guys are live but if they only played shows where they played the first few records, I’d definitely go. I did enjoy this one for the most part but there are definitely a lot of albums that aren’t that good.
