✝️✝️✝️Crosses

When it comes to side projects, they can be hit or miss. Now it’s been my experience that most of them have been good and up next on the Chopping Block is the band ✝️✝️✝️Crosses. Crosses is a side project featuring  Deftones singer Chino Moreno and Far guitarist Shaun Lopez.  Let’s take a look…….

✝️✝️✝️Crosses- if you’re expecting anything like Deftones like anything at all, then you’re going to be extremely disappointed with this album.  If you had told me to listen to this album even a year or two ago, I probably would’ve hated this album.  Now that I’ve had a sort of eclectic awakening (thanks to my podcast cohost and friend Brian), I actually quite enjoyed this album and actually found it to be very relaxing. It’s very in the realm of Shoegaze, gothic, and even electronica. It’s one of those records that you could put on after a death metal show on the ride home.  I’ll give it 9/10.

Standouts- This Is A Trick, Bermuda Locket, Option

PERMANENT.RADIANT- so this is ep that was meant to serve as Bridge/something to put out before the next album.  It’s kind of more the same except maybe not as dark as the first album. Either way it is something that is worth a listen so I’ll go ahead and give it 8/10.

Standouts: Sensation, Vivien

Goodnight,God Bless,I Love U,Delete.- again much like the EP, well this one is kind of more the same, it’s not as dark as the first album.  I did find it to be more atmospheric than the first record but again this is one of those albums that you should probably listen to if you want to either relax or go to sleep.  Now a lot of it does appear to be more of the same, they do sort of seem to kind of branch off into something more I guess upbeat (thank Depeche Mode). The song “Girls Float✝️Boys Cry” features vocal contributions from Robert Smith of The Cure. Either way it’s a pretty solid second full length album and I’ll go ahead and give it 9/10

Standouts:  Girls Float✝️Boys Cry, Pleasure, Found

This is absolutely one of those bands that you can tell are influenced by artists such as Depeche Mode, The Cure, and even Nine Inch Nails.  And of course, as I said in my review, these albums are ones that you could put on after coming home from a death metal show and it would just be the perfect way to end the night.  I am curious as to how they would be live but whether or not I would go is a different story.  Again, if you’re expecting Deftones, you’re going to be very disappointed, but if you are a fan of Chino Moreno definitely check this band out.

Final Grade: A
