Up next on the Chopping Block is the band Lostprophets. With that let’s take a look……..
The Fake Sound Of Progress- so I would say there’s definitely a lot going on with this album. You have many different styles of the time here and I gotta say musically it’s just a great album. The singer reminds me of a little bit of Mike Patton and you can absolutely hear it in the music as well. I wouldn’t say this sounds like a product of its time but it definitely feels like a 2000s album. I’m giving this album 8/10.
Standouts: Kobrakai, The Fake Sound Of Progress, Awkward
Start Something- does anybody remember the song that was on the radio called Last Train Home? Well, if you do like I do then this is the album that gave us that song and I’ll admit it, I definitely listened to this song quite a bit. Aside from that song, though I would say this one has a bit more of a nü-metal sound mixed with a little bit of funk. It’s a very interesting album and it does kind of take one back to the early 2000s. I’m giving this album 8.5/10.
Standouts: To Hell We Ride, Hello Again, Last Summer
Liberation Transmission- I would say that this album as a whole is a lot tighter almost as if they finally kinda are coming into their own. There’s just something about this album where they sound more cohesive. I don’t know it could be the production but again this is actually a pretty good album and one thing to note is that Josh Freese plays drums on this one. I’ll give this one, 8.5/10.
Standouts: A Town Called Hypocrisy, The New Transmission, Everybody’s Screaming
The Betrayed- I would say that this one definitely stepped it up a bit from the previous two albums, and this one is a bit darker and heavier. There’s not really a lot of pop going on here like there was on Liberation so if you ever decide to listen to any of these albums, just know that this one is different. I’ll go ahead and give it 8.5/10
Standouts: Next Stop Atro City, DSTRYR/DSTRYR
Weapons- OK so here we are. We are at the final album that this band will ever release. I don’t think they’re going to put out another album at least under this band name because of the tarnished legacy that they have now. But in any event, you can tell that they were influenced by bands like Muse because you definitely hear that. I wouldn’t say that this is a bad album, but it’s maybe not as strong as their other albums. I can kind of see why this one is considered their lowest rated album because it’s just kind of boring and overall it’s just OK. I’ll go ahead and give it 6/10
Standouts: Bring Em Down, Another Shot
At the end of the day, this really is a good band with good albums and it’s too bad that things went the way they did. I don’t see them putting out new music under the Lostprophets name but hopefully now that Watkins is dead, people will give their music a chance because they really are good albums.
