Ok so up next on the chopping block is an alternative rock band called Failure. Now I had never heard of these guys before and this one is a request. So let’s take a look…..
Comfort- so when listening to this album, I definitely get Helmet vibes. Like Strap It On era meets Meantime era Helmet. And that’s not a bad thing. I actually really enjoyed this album. One thing about checking out new bands (particularly non metal bands) is that the music is boring or just not that good. With this I was pleasantly surprised. So that being said, I give this 10/10. It’s gritty, raw, and it’s just awesome.
Standouts: Macaque, Swallow, Kindred
Magnified- so this one actually sounds more polished production wise. It’s not really more of the same and here I feel like they are really coming into their own. What I like about this record is the simplicity of it. It’s just guitar, bass, and drums. Nothing fancy just straight up alt rock and again I get Helmet vibes from them. I give this 10/10
Standouts: Moth, Let It Drip, Magnified
Fantastic Planet- compared to the first two records, this one is slower. However, even though they are slowed down they’re not boring. I would say that this album could’ve done with a couple less songs but overall, this is a very good album. This gets another 10/10
Standouts: Pillowhead, Segue 1, Sergeant Politeness
The Heart Is A Monster- I guess the word I would use to describe this one would be moody. Like there are some bright spots and then there are some dark and weird moments. It’s a very unique and sort of spacey sounding record and honestly, in terms of guitar playing, I really like that weirdness. My only real complaint is that this album is a little long. I give this one 9/10
Standouts: Hot Traveler, Counterfeit Sky, A.M. Amnesia
In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind- I would describe this one as dreamy and distant. I get the feeling that if I was high, I would probably have a completely different experience. I mean this is one of those albums that you just need to listen to in order to get it. It’s weird and dark. I give this one 10/10
Standouts: Dark Speed, No One Left, Found A Way
Well I must say that this one was definitely short but sweet. As I said earlier, their first couple records remind me of Helmet records. I’m sure seeing them live is also another experience in it of itself. Now there is another album coming out called Wild Type Droid and I’ll for sure be checking that one out. If you are looking for something new and different, I definitely recommend checking these guys out.
