Cave In

Up next on the chopping block is a band that I have never heard of. Apparently they broke up and reunited and that band is Cave In. This was a request so let’s take a look…….

Until Your Heart Stops- this one comes out the gate with a bang. It’s definitely a metalcore record and has that late 90’s sound going for it. It starts off fast, slows down a bit then picks up. Kinda like a rollercoaster. I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: Moral Eclipse, Bottom Feeder, Ebola

Jupiter- so instead of metalcore and screaming vocals, this one has more of a different approach. Here we have more elements of space rock and psychedelic rock. Like if I was a pot head, I’d probably love this album. It’s a very interesting record to say the least. I’ll give it 8/10

Standouts: Big Riff, In The Stream Of Commerce, Jupiter

Antenna- so gone is the psychedelic rock and space rock and here this one feels like a more melodic record. Now I have said it many times before and I’ll say it again but I can’t stand when bands repeat the same vocals over and over again so this album loses points. Now when I first listened, I thought this was just ok and after the second go-round, I still feel the same.  I’ll give it 4/10

Standouts: Stained Silver, Anchor

Perfect Pitch Black- I really like how this one starts out and the rest of the record feels like a mixture of what they’ve done up until now. It’s most definitely a step up from Antenna and it feels angrier for some songs. Overall a much better record and I’ll give it 8/10

Standouts: Perfect Pitch Black, Droned, The World Is In Your Own Way

White Silence- this one feels like a continuation of the last record. I really like the vocals on this record because it complements the riffing really well. Some of these songs also have like this weird space-y sound for the intro which is really cool. A neat record and I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: Centered, Vicious Circles, Serpents

Final Transmission- this one feels kind of dreary. Like there are some really weird slow songs and some that are I guess less dreary. I feel like this one is very hit or miss.  It’s certainly better than a record like Antenna and it certainly feels more cohesive than that record but overall, this one was just ok. I’ll give it 7/10

Standouts: Night Crawler, Strange Reflection, Led To The Wolves

Heavy Pendulum- my biggest criticism of this one is that it’s a little too long. There’s just a lot of filler on here and it feels almost as if they were trying to do this and an EP but then decided to just make one long album. Now the songs that are good are awesome and the riffing on some of these tracks is just so damn good.  I’ll give this 8/10

Standouts: New Reality, Amaranthine, Floating Skulls

This was an interesting one to say the least. I do like how there is something different on each record. Now these guys have other side projects such as Mutoid Man and honestly, I could see them on a tour with bands like Converge.
