On this day, April 17, 2026, the band Unpolished* have released their latest EP Full Frontal: Act I. I came across these talented ladies last year and almost immediately became a fan. With that, let’s take a look…..
It’s always great when a band decides to try something a bit different instead of making the same record over and over again. Full Frontal: Act I is a great example of such and there’s almost a cinematic feel to it. I certainly wouldn’t expect a continuation of their last EP I Plead Insanity but at the same time, they do stay true to their hard rock/indie punk roots. For five songs, there really is a lot going on. Besides the cinematic elements there’s punk, indie rock, a touch of emo, and even some atmospheric elements. All of this really does take you on sort of a ride which makes for a very fun listening experience. They did release the songs “feet pics” and “accept me!” prior to this release and both were pretty good indicators of how the rest of this album would sound. What I like about this band is that their songs have this catchiness and groove to them. Vocalist Mary Bugbee has this sort of punkiness meets indie style of singing and she has a great cadence. Drummer Jasmine Day hits her drums with a certain level of precision and she is absolutely one hell of a drummer as indicated on the song “accept me!” I always love a great guitar riff and Celinda Chang is definitely full of great riffs and of course can turn out a fantastic solo. Being able to really hear the bass in hard rock can at times be hard but Santos definitely has some great bass lines as well as a thunderous tone that really just grabs you and pulls you in. Overall, don’t expect a part two of I Plead Insanity but rather expect something fun, cinematic, and very much in the indie rock realm of things. If Act I is this good then I am definitely looking forward to Act II which hopefully will be here sooner rather than later. I’ll give this EP 9/10
