Ok so for this Collaboration Post, I figured since Soundgarden was just inducted in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, I would highlight the collaboration between The Pretty Reckless, Kim Thayil, and Matt Cameron. I’m not gonna get to into it here so with that let’s take a look…….
Song: Only Love Can Save Me Now
Album: Death By Rock And Roll
So as I said earlier, Soundgarden was just inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and the song Rusty Cage was performed by former Soundgarden members with Taylor on vocals and I must say she absolutely nailed it!! I mean let’s just forget the fact that Taylor is a massive fan of Soundgarden, but man voice!! Now circling back to this song, it’s very much a perfect blend of Soundgarden meets Pretty Reckless. Like you have that grungy guitar tone and that thunderous percussiveness on top of how the rest of the album sounds, and it is absolutely perfect!! Honestly just listen to the rest of the album and that song while being a stand out fits in perfectly. If you are a fan of Soundgarden and haven’t heard this song, definitely give it a listen because it’s the closest thing to new music from the band. Both Matt and Kim do a phenomenal job with the rest of the band and Taylor’s vocals are absolutely top notch. I love the fact that she puts real emotion in all her songs and this one is no different. She is definitely one of those powerhouse vocalists that in my opinion can be overlooked. Now they were on tour with Soundgarden the night Chris died and I have no doubt in my mind that this is her way of dealing with it. I mean if you really read the lyrics, this is a very dark album, but it’s just a perfect example of the healing power of music. This song is definitely one of my favorite songs on this album and is for sure a stand out. Definitely give this song and album a spin because it is one of their better records.
Score: 10/10
