Jimmy Eat World

Ok so up next is a band that I never thought I’d do but they were a request and I do honor most requests. The band up on the chopping block is the band Jimmy Eat World and I haven’t really heard much of them except for those overplayed songs. So let’s take a look……..

Jimmy Eat World- alright so when I listen to this album, to me they sound a lot like that band Jawbreaker. Now I had never even heard of this and much less knew that these guys have been around since 1994 but I really like this album. If I had known about it back in the day I definitely would’ve bought it. I’ll give this one 10/10.

Standouts: Patches, Chachi, Reason 346

Static Prevails- this one gives me Blink 182 vibes for some of these songs. Now the problem I have with this album is that it starts off alright but then tends to slow down in parts and some of the songs are just flat out boring. I will say there is a little bit of the sound from the last album but you can tell that they are definitely changing their sound. So that being said, I’ll give this 7/10

Standouts: Rockstar, Robot Factory, 77 Satellites

Clarity- ok so this one definitely has a lot of filler on it.  Like seriously, this album was freaking boring. This is an example of less is more. I won’t go on about it but let’s just say that I couldn’t wait for it to end. 2/10

Standouts: Crush

Bleed American- ah yes the album with those two songs that everyone knows (those being The Middle and Sweetness which I can’t stand either btw). I’m sure there are others on here that people will know but those two songs I mentioned were really the only songs that I know of theirs. So for that I’ll give this one 8/10

Standouts: Bleed American, A Praise Chorus, Get It Faster

Futures- I feel like this one is hit or miss. By that I mean some songs sound like they were leftovers from the last album and some feel like they could’ve been on Clarity. Now this isn’t the worst album I’ve ever heard but at the end of the day, this one is just ok. I’ll give this 5/10

Standouts: Futures, Night Drive, Work

Chase This Light- if I could describe this album in one word, that word would be mellow. Like seriously guys less is more. I don’t know I just feel like there is just too much filler. If they cut out like 3-4 songs, then the album would be fine. As a whole, there aren’t really any memorable songs. I don’t know I’m just not a fan of this band thus far and for that I’ll give it 2/10

Standouts:

Invented- to me this is more of the same as the last album. It’s too mellow and soft. Like for me I don’t mind some mellowness to albums especially rock albums but come on I would say this is even borderline soft rock. Again I just couldn’t get into this one. 3/10

Standouts:

Damage- so there is a song on here called Please Say No and that’s what I’m doing to this album. I’ll give this 1/10

Standouts:

Integrity Blues- so is this album considered a rock album? Cause if it is, then I guess I just don’t know rock music. Like to me this is more of an indie sounding album more than a rock album. Again this album is boring 0/10

Standouts:

Surviving- finally some sort of guitar work that is listenable. On this one I feel like they are trying to go back to some of their earlier work but there is still too much of that indie rock sound. Hopefully if the6 make another album they do better. This album is a slight improvement but not by a lot. I’ll give this one 2/10

Standouts: Criminal Energy

Alright I know I was harsh and gave a lot of low scores but hey the point of doing these reviews is to expand one’s musical palette. While I may not be a fan of this band, I am glad I gave them a listen and if you are into them then that’s cool. This one was definitely different.  That said, onto the album rankings.

Final Grade: D
