If you have never been to a Cobalt Presents show you absolutely have to!! These shows are (currently) being held at Corbin Bowl in Tarzana and Hotel Ziggy in West Hollywood. The show that was held at Corbin on November 15th 2025 was the 35th Anniversary of Highwire Daze Magazine. There were six great local/young bands so with that, let’s
take a look……………

Implicit Bias- right out the gate, this band just went for it. They are a hardcore punk band that just had a ton of energy. They were able to get the crowd going a bit and you can tell that they were just having fun. Their set flew by and they were a great band to kick things off.

The Drained- so I guess something happened to their drummer and the band ended up playing an acoustic set. For those that know me know that I absolutely do not like acoustic sets. However, I actually really enjoyed this set and I must say even acoustically the songs that this band has sound great. If you haven’t read my Spotlight Review on this band, click the link here https://sinisterreviews.wordpress.com/band-spotlight-the-drained/ I’m very much looking forward to hearing what this band has to put out next and even though they were playing unplugged, it was actually a pretty nice transition for the next band.

Birdhouse- OK out of all the bands that were scheduled to perform, I would say these guys were probably the most different sounding. Even if The Drained didn’t perform acoustically, they still would’ve been different to these guys. Again, if you haven’t read my Spotlight Review on this band then click here https://sinisterreviews.wordpress.com/band-spotlight-birdhouse/ I would say that oddly enough they’re sort of indie rock sound kind of fit in with the rest of the bands. It was certainly different, and I was a little, unsure as to how they would fit in because in my opinion, they would probably fit in more at one of the Hotel Ziggy shows. But to my surprise, they actually sounded pretty damn good. It was kind of a come before the storm type of vibe (I don’t know. I can’t really explain it but either way it was cool).

Madam Bombs- another young group of ladies that definitely brought a ton of energy. This three piece definitely had the crowd going and it was a great follow up from Birdhouse. From the first note to the last note, they were on!! They were absolutely one of those bands that you can just tell they were having the time of their life and that’s something that is refreshing to see. As I stated earlier, they had a great amount of energy and it was pretty cool going from sort of like a calmer more Indie rock of Birdhouse two kind of a more punk rocky energy that they brought. Definitely hope to see them again because if they’re this energetic and fun, then I have no doubt that they will be the next time. The Anti-Groupies- OK so out of all the bands that were playing tonight this is the one that I was the most familiar with. My podcast cohost and good friend Brian put them on my radar and I am forever grateful for that. Their songs have been in fairly good rotation whenever I do cardio or I’m at the gym and they did not disappoint!! They were absolutely on fire that night and if this was my first time discovering who they were, I would’ve thought that they had been doing this sort of thing for years and years. Again, another band that I’m very much looking forward to seeing again and hope to have for future Cobalt Presents shows. If they’re ever in your part of town, do yourself a favor and go see this massively talented group of ladies. Tomorrow’s Anthem- so here we are at the final band of the night and well as the kids say, all good things must come to an end. After five great hands, we’re going to finally end the night with Tomorrow’s Anthem. Now again, this is another young group of ladies and much like the other bands that played, the too we’re just full of energy and you can tell we’re having just an absolute blast. Now their second consisted of about two or three originals and covers. Their cover songs were some pretty solid choices. I mean they covered songs from bands like Alice In Chains and Velvet Revolver (which is not a band that typically gets covered so that was a very interesting choice). As with all Cobalt Presents shows, they are just an absolute blast and if you have not gone to one, then definitely do so. I mean seriously it’s $10 for six bands. And it’s not just six bands it’s six great bands!! SIX BANDS FOR $10 YOU CAN’T BEAT THAT!!!! Of course this one being the 35th anniversary of Highwire Daze Magazine made it a little extra special but either way, all of the bands did a fantastic job and definitely check them all out!! This one was the last Cobalt show at Corbin Bowl for 2025 and I honestly couldn’t have thought of a better show. I for one am very much looking forward to 2026 and beyond and here’s to 35 years of Highwire Daze Magazine!!!
