I feel like when bands announce their final tour, you sort of have to take it with a grain of salt. Take Slayer for example. Back in 2018 they announced their final tour and people took that as them saying they weren’t going to play any more shows ever. But you have to note the key phrase is NOT GOING TO TOUR and NOT PLAY SHOWS. So when the announcement came that Sepultura was on their final tour, I felt the same way. On Friday, May 29, 2026, Sepultura played their “last” show in LA at The Wiltern and they brought Biohazard and Exodus. Let’s take a look………
Looking back, I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad show at the Wiltern. It’s easy to get to, it’s in a relatively nice part of town, and you can either have seats or go in the pit. Another nice thing about this venue is that no matter where you sit you always get a good view. Kicking things off was New York hardcore band Biohazard and this would be my second time seeing them the first being at 2024’s Aftershock and I have to say they sounded pretty damn good. Lead vocalist and bass player Evan Seinfeld was very engaging with the crowd and the band just had a great amount of energy. They are currently touring in support of their latest album Divided We Fall which came out last year and it’s a very good, solid album. After the house lights dimmed, the theme to Rocky starts playing and they go right into “Urban Discipline” off of their 1992 album of the same name. Of course they played the lead single “Fuck The System” from the new album and they closed the night with the song “Punishment.” Like I said, they definitely had a lot of energy and they were the perfect way to open the show. I definitely would see them again.
Next up is one of my absolute favorites Exodus. I’ve said it many times before and I’ll keep saying it but Rob Dukes should have never been kicked out. I am so glad that he’s singing for Exodus again because he brings such a brutality and harder edge than his predecessor. Now much like Biohazard, they too are touring in support of their new album called Goliath which came out earlier this year. Exodus kicked things off with the first single “3111” before playing the first song off their first album “Bonded By Blood.” The great thing about having Rob back in the band is that he can sing all of the Exodus songs from both previous singers so much better. Of course it’s always great seeing the guitar team that is Gary Holt and Lee Altus. Both of them (especially Lee) are very underrated and can absolutely shred. Of course bassist Jack Gibson is great and his tone is absolutely crushing and compliments Tom Huntings drumming. This is one of those bands that I wish had a much longer set and played more songs from Rob’s albums, but they were a support band and I’ll just have to wait until they are headlining their own show. Another great addition to an already fantastic show
Time for the main event………………Sepultura!!!! Of course people say that this isn’t the real Sepultura or that it’s nothing but a karaoke band but those people are idiots. It is too bad that this is their final tour because this is my third time seeing them and every single time they have always been great!! I mean they kicked things off with “Inner Self” and once that happened it was on!!! Right after that, they played the song “All Souls Rising” off their final studio EP The Cloud Of Unknowing and this is my first time actually hearing that song and I really enjoyed and I’m looking forward to be checking out The Cloud Of Unknowing when I do their Rewind Review. Of course they played the classics like “Territory,” “Refuse Resist,” and “Arise.” During the song “Kaiowas,” they brought out Dave Grohl as well as several members from the crew to all do the percussion jam which was so cool. And for the song “Slave New World,” they brought out Evan Seinfeld to do co-vocals which made that song sound that much more badass. I’m actually going to go against the grain here and say that I do wish they would have played less songs from the Max Cavalera era because those albums have some great songs. But at the same time I get it they have to play certain songs and Derek Green does a great job with that material.
It really is too bad that this is their final tour however I am glad that I got to see them before they called it quits. If you were one of those people that is so close minded that you’re not going to give any of the post Cavalera albums a chance then you are really doing yourself a disservice. There are some great albums with some really great songs and Derek Green has actually been in the band longer than the Cavalera brothers. Of course I have to give props to guitarist Andreas Kisser and bassist Paulo Jr. Not only are they severely underrated but they’ve kept this band going for 30 years!! That’s pretty impressive despite all of the naysayers and the negativity from some of these insufferable metal fans. I also want to give a shout out to Derrick Green because coming in and replacing a legend like Max Cavalera is no easy task but he did it and he did it well!! Now as I previously stated, this would be their final tour not show this was absolutely a perfect package tour. Honestly I can’t imagine having any other band except for Biohazard and Exodus as openers. So with that we say goodbye to Sepultura and thank you for all of the years of great albums and music!!!
