Scorpions

Up next on the chopping block is the band Scorpions. Now like most people the only song that I’m really familiar with is Rock You Like A Hurricane so let’s see what else these guys have to offer. Let’s take a look………

Lonesome Crow- so I am pretty sure these guys are known for their twin guitar sound but on here you won’t really find any of that. This is definitely more of a psychedelic rock sounding record. In fact, I’d say that the music is the kind of music you’d hear in those mom and pop record stores. Overall it’s not bad. I’ll give this one 7/10

Standouts: I’m Goin Mad, Inheritance

Fly To The Rainbow- this one still keeps that psychedelic rock sound only I prefer the vocals on here better than the other record. I’d say it’s a slight step up from before. I’ll give this one 7/10

Standouts: Speedy’s Coming, Drifting On, This Is My Song

In Trance- so here we can hear the songs have a slight hard rock edge to them.  Here you can here them start to move away from the psychedelic sound and go to more of that rock sound. Overall, it’s ok. I like it a little better than the last one but I’m giving this one a 7.5/10

Standouts: Dark Lady, Robot Man, Evening Wind

Virgin Killer- so this is now into full on hard rock territory here. This one you can tell that they are ditching the sound from the first two albums and are headed in a new direction. I will say that Uli Jon Roth’s guitar playing is pretty damn good on this record so if you want to hear some badass guitar work, check this album out. I’ll give it 10/10

Standouts: Catch Your Train, Backstage Queen, Polar Night

Taken By Force- ok so here we are continuing the same trend as the last album. Again the guitar work here is really top notch. It’s really too bad that this would be Roth’s last record but I enjoyed this one a lot. I’ll give this 10/10

Standouts: The Sails Of Charon, Suspender Love, Steamrock Fever

Lovedrive- let me just start by saying that the cover for this album is odd. Anyway, you can hear them start to sort of venture into metal territory but overall, this is a pretty diverse rock record. I’ll give this one another 10/10

Standouts: Another Piece Of Meat, Can’t Get Enough, Lovedrive

Animal Magnetism- don’t get me wrong, this is a solid record but I feel like a lot of the songs were leftover from the previous recording. This one’s just not quite as strong as the last record. I’ll give this one 9/10

Standouts: Twentieth Century Man, The Zoo, Make It Real

Blackout- I feel like I’ve seen this album cover in almost every record store. This one also sees them go in a more radio friendly direction. I don’t know I feel like I’ve heard songs from this record on the radio. I can see why this one would be that way though. The songs are good songs and they are also kinda catchy. Anyway, it’s a classic album so I’ll give it 10/10

Standouts: Blackout, Now, Arizona

Love At First Sting- this is classic Scorpions. Like if someone were to start with this band, I’d recommend this as a starting point. I mean this is the album that gave us the song Rock You Like A Hurricane. It pretty much has a little bit of everything. I’ll give this another 10/10

Standouts: Bad Boys Running Wild, The Same Thrill, Still Loving You

Savage Amusement-  so the question is after making an iconic album is the follow up just as good? Well for this band the answer would be no. Not to say that this is  bad record but it’s just not as good as before. The songs are decent but overall this one is just ok. I’ll give it 8/10

Standouts: Don’t Stop At The Top, Passion Rules The Game, We Let It Rock…You Let It Roll

Crazy World- ok so we are now in the 90’s and I gotta say that this one sounds kinda cheesy. I don’t know there’s something about this record that makes it sound for a lack of a better word cheesy. Maybe that’s because this came out in 1990?  I mean a lot of great records came out in 1990 but this isn’t one of them. I’ll give this 7/10

Standouts: Don’t Believe Her, Lust Or Love, Money And Fame

Face The Heat- for some songs, there is a certain heaviness to them. And as for the others, we’ll I’d say they’re kind of boring. This album was very hit or miss with me. I actually enjoyed this one more than I thought but as a whole this album is just average so I’ll give it 7/10

Standouts: Unholy Alliance, Alien Nation, Ship Of Fools

Pure Instinct- so this album has little to no rock on it. Like seriously this album is all soft songs of ballads. Like where are the twin guitar songs?  This one was really hard to get through so it’s getting a 0/10

Standouts:

Eye II Eye- ok now we’re into some real crap here. I guess you could call this their experimental phase but usually the experimental phase  for some bands is actually interesting. This one is all pop music. Like seriously what were they thinking?  This one is easily skip-able. Another 0/10

Standouts:

Unbreakable- well the one positive about this record is that the rock is back sort of. I mean the guitar work is fine but overall, this one just isn’t that great. Oh sure it’s better than the last two records but that’s not really saying much. I’ll give this one 3/10

Standouts: Someday Is Now

Humanity Hour 1- so this one feels very radio friendly. I guess it’s a slight step up from the last record but overall, it’s a very bland record. This was one of those that I couldn’t wait for it to be over. I’ll give it 3.5/10

Standouts: 321

Sting In The Tail- this one feels like they are trying to return to their old sound. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It’s definitely a lot better than the last few records they’ve put out. It feels like something they would’ve put out on the 80’s but it has a modern twist to it. I actually enjoyed this one more than I thought. I’ll give this one 8.5/10

Standouts: Rock Zone, Sting In The Tail, Let’s Rock

Return To Forever- what’s with this band? Like they’ll release a really good record then they release a crappy record. This is another boring ass record. I’m not going to go too much into this one but this is another skipable record. It’s getting a 2/10

Standouts:

Rock Believer- finally we are at the last of the records. This one I’d say is a combination of the last two records. Like there are some ok songs and then there are some that you can skip over. Overall it’s average. I’ll give it 4/10

Standouts: Gas In The Tank

I did not realize that they had so many albums. I think it’s safe to say that their best stuff was in the 70’s and 80’s. Would I see them live? Probably yes. Will you be fine with their albums from the early days? Yes
