Oasis

So in my quest of finding all of my past reviews, I unfortunately lost a few of them. So this one is what I like to call a lost review. Now how do I know it’s a lost review? Because usually once I am nearing the end of a deep dive, Spotify creates a playlist of that band with similar artists. But enough of that because the band back on the chopping block is Oasis and from what I remember they were pretty good and of course they are an important band as well. So with that let’s take a look……..(again)…………

Definitely Maybe-  ah yes the 90’s, so many great bands came out and if you were around, then it was a special time. This is one of those albums that is what I would call a 90’s classic. In an era where grunge was the big thing, this is a very optimistic album. It’s nothing super complex or complicated but it’s simple and that’s what I like about it. Definitely going to have to give it a 10/10

Standouts: Rock N Roll Star, Shakermaker,  SuperSonic

What’s The Story Morning Glory- this one is pretty similar to the last album however, it’s a bit more ballad-y.   It’s also got more of an indie/alternative rock feel whereas the last album was more of a straight forward rock record. This is another one of those (what I would say) important albums especially one from the 90’s. This also gave us the hit song Wonderwall (a song that’s overplayed). Definitely another 10/10

Standouts: Some Might Say, Champagne Supernova, Morning Glory

Be Here Now- so this one does seem a bit slowed down, and the songs also are longer. I’m not a huge fan of songs that are seven minutes or longer, but the truth be told they don’t really feel that way. I do like this album. I just don’t think it’s as strong as the previous two records so I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: Don’t Go Away, Magic Pie, Stand By Me

Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants- the thing with this one is that it feels very much like an experimental record. It’s definitely not a rock album or a Brit pop album but it’s more psychedelic and even some electronica things going on. I didn’t dislike this album. I just don’t think it’s as strong as their previous albums.  I’ll give this one 8/10.

Standouts : Gas Panic!, Little James, Who Feels Love?

Heathen Chemistry- I feel like this album starts off strong, but then maybe a little more than halfway through. That’s probably the best way to describe this one. It feels almost like it’s sort of a B side record.  Overall, this one’s just OK. There are some good moments but again it’s sort of a boring album.  I’ll give it 7/10

Standouts: The Hindu Times, Hung In A Bad Place, Force Of Nature

Don’t Believe The Truth- this one kind of feels like they were trying to go back to how they were on the first couple of records. The songs seem a bit more structured, and apparently, all of the band contributed. Overall, a very good record and most certainly a step up.  I’ll give this one, 8.5/10.

Standouts: Turn Up The Sun, Love Like A Bomb, Keep The Dream Alive

Dig Out Your Soul- this one had a lot more acoustic songs than I would’ve thought. Aside from that however, there are still a fair amount of non acoustic songs which are pretty good. As of now this is the most recent album and I must say it’s ok. The acoustic stuff does get repetitive and this one can feel a bit uneven. Overall this one’s just ok and I’ll give it 6/10

Standouts: Bag It Up, The Shock Of The Lightning

One cannot deny how great at least the first two maybe three albums are.  If you ask me, they’re pretty damn important, especially albums from the 90s. Do I feel like they need to make a new album? Yeah I would say so at least just to see how they would sound now in 2025 because the last album came out in 2008. But I think at the end of the day, this is a band with some pretty great albums and some really great musicians.

Final Grade: B+/A-
