If you’re reading this and you still have yet to make it to a Cobalt Presents show then I just have to say you’re really missing out on some great bands. One such band that has been booked a couple times is Free Zuma so with that, let’s take a look….
I remember when I got the list of bands to make the flyer for the first time they were booked and thinking “Free Zuma?? What a unique name. I’m curious as to how they are live.” Fast forward to their time slot, and I must say, they’re a lot of fun. They definitely have this laidback vibe with these hooks that once you see them, you can’t help but enjoy yourself. Now of course when it comes to streaming their music, they have one full length called Highs And Lows and two EP’s called Un Verano Loco and Dye My Hair. The best way to describe their sound on all three is this mix of indie alternative with a touch of 70’s dance music. It’s a really cool and interesting sound and it’s definitely music that I could see myself listening to on the drive home after a metal show to sort of wind down. Of course this wouldn’t be possible without the talent that makes up this band. Singer David Kuehl definitely has that really cool sort of emotional grit yet there’s an emotion to it that’s really neat. Then of course you have the guitar work from both Brent Richardson and Michael Stonehill who both complement each other very well. As it is with all great bands, a good rhythm section is key and that is rounded out by drummer Paul and bassist Brian Pedigo. Both play off each other and are tons o’ fun to watch. Free Zuma is definitely one of those bands that is a fun time and they definitely know how to get a crowd going. Now of course their songs are great by themselves, but they’re even better live!! So the next time they are in your part of town, definitely check them out and maybe just MAYBE, they’ll be back at another Cobalt Presents?!?!
