Song Pick Of The Week: The Distillers- Drain The Blood

When it comes to great punk songs, you honestly really can’t go wrong with The Distillers. The albums they made are fun, energetic, and singer Brody Dalle absolutely sounds like a punkier Courtney Love.  For this Song Pick Of The Week, we’re taking a look at the song “Drain The Blood.”  Let’s take a look………

I’m almost certain this is one of the songs that got me hooked on this band. Back when KROQ would play better music, this is one of those that was in rotation especially as it got closer to the 2003 Almost Acoustic Christmas show. Bands like this one aren’t really known for having “hits” but I would say this is now considered one of their classics or at the very least a live staple.  It’s got hooks melodies and pretty much anything that one would be looking for in a great punk rock song. The meaning of the song and the album (according to singer Brody Dalle) is about her relationship with Tim Armstrong (of Rancid) and for this song specifically because she met him when she was 16, moved in with him at 18, and he was 12 years older. One thing about this band is their albums always had a certain kind of consistency yet never sounded old or overplayed.
