Alright so up next on the chopping block is a band you (probably) haven’t heard. Now every now and then I like to take a break from death metal and listen to some straight up rock. The band I am talking about is Legs Diamond and this is one of those bands I feel like more people outside of LA should know about. Anyway here we go…..
Legs Diamond- 70’s rock guitar has always had that distinct sound to it. I don’t know I can’t explain it but I like it. I get a lot of Rush, Led Zeppelin, and even some Cheap Trick vibes from this album. Like if you mix them , this is the sound you would get which makes for a great rock and roll album. If you are into 70’s rock and especially underground 70’s rock, then definitely give this album a listen. I give it 10/10
Standouts: Satin Peacock, Stage Fright, Rat Race
A Diamond Is A Hard Rock- I can see how some would compare this album to say a Judas Priest or even a Deep Purple album. This is another great 70’s rock album and why these guys didn’t take off like Van Halen or Dokken is a mystery. Personally I think I prefer the last album just a little more but this is still a great rock album. I give this 9.5/10
Standouts: Long Shot, A Diamond Is A Hard Rock, I Think I Got It
Firepower- I’m not sure what it is about the name Firepower does for an album name but this is the second album I have heard with that name and both are great albums. There are songs that are heavier on here than the last two albums. If I had to nit pick, I’d say that there are a couple moments where it kind of drags but it’s not a lot. Another album worth your time. I give this 9.5/10
Standouts: Underworld King, Midnight Lady, Come With Me
Out On Bail- ah yes 80’s Legs Diamond. Well what can I say about their first album in the 1980’s? Well it sounds like an album made in the 80’s. The singer has kind of a Brian Johnson thing going on with his vocals. I will say that even though the album was made in 1984, there are traces of that 70’s sound still going on and it works quite nicely. Anyway, another album worth checking out. I give it 9/10
Standouts: Doomsday Flight, Out On Bail, Radio
Land Of The Gun- listening to songs on this album makes me think of 80’s movies for some reason and I’m not saying that as a negative at all. This one seems to be more “ballady”. What I mean by that is that it’s softer than the previous albums. It’s not my favorite in the bunch but worth a listen. I give this 7/10
Standouts: My Own Game, Rock Doktor, Right Between The Eyes
Town Bad Girl- I’d say for this album they definitely come out the gate swinging. The opener is such a jam. On here, there is a nice balance of softer songs and harder songs which means there is something for everyone on here. Definitely a step up from the last record. I give this 10/10
Standouts: Town Bad Girl, Nervous, Heaven Or Hell
The Wish- for some weird reason this one doesn’t sound quite as modern as the last album. It’s almost like they went back to the 80’s with this one. Now granted this album came out in the early 90’s so I guess that shouldn’t be that surprising. In spite of it, the guitar and drum work on here are really good. Overall, a pretty solid album. I give it 9/10
Standouts: Paradise Lost, Red Light, What’s Da Matter With U
Uncut Diamond- so I guess this is what would be considered the lost album. This was originally recorded in 1980 but I guess for some reason wasn’t released until 1999. Now as far as the album goes, one would think it would sound like 80’s album but it doesn’t really. This is one of the more unique albums by them because not only do you have their usual sound on here, but there are some funk elements on here. It’s different but it works. I give this 10/10
Standouts: Dance Hall Gigolo, Hidin’, Card Shark
Diamonds Are Forever- for this album their original singer has been replaced and while it does sound different, the quality doesn’t suffer. On here there seems to be a harder sound (on some of the songs) on and maybe the new singer has something to do,with it I’m not sure. Overall, it’s a very well made record and the production is also really good. My only nit pick on this is that I wanted more harder songs but that’s really it. Another solid record and I give it 7.5/10
Standouts: King Of Speed, Trouble, Let It Go
At the end of the day, this is a solid rock band and it’s too bad they aren’t more well known but at the same time, some of the best bands are considered “underground” and that makes you, appreciate them more. Their last album came out in 2005 so hopefully we get some new music sooner rather than later. This is the kind of music that I can just chill out to. So if you like bands that have a mix of Deep Purple and a little bit of Rush and Zeppelin thrown in, then you’ll definitely like these guys.
