Alright so continuing with the classic rock trend, the next band I’m going to put on the chopping block is the band Boston. Now outside of the first album I have not heard anything else so this will be exciting. Let’s take a look……..
Boston- well what can I say about this album? It’s a masterpiece. Like seriously this album is one of those albums where every song is great. I can’t think of a dull moment on here and this is one of those albums where once you put it on, it always goes over well. Honestly if you haven’t heard this album then stop reading right now, listen to it, then continue reading. Without a doubt this is a 10/10
Standouts: Foreplay/Long Time, Smokin, Hitch A Ride
Don’t Look Back- ok so how does one really follow up a prefect album? Well the answer is you can’t really except for make another one. So the question is do they do that with this album? Yes they actually do. The guitars and the keyboards on this are big and awesome sounding like on the first. I even feel like this one is underrated and it sounds very similar to the last album. Anyway, another great album and a great companion to the last album. I’ll give this one another 10/10
Standouts: Don’t Look Back, Feelin’ Satisfied, Don’t Be Afraid
Third Stage- so like I asked before if a band makes two great albums back to back can they do that with their third album? Well with this one the answer is no. Now there was an 8 year gap between this one and the last one and maybe that might’ve had something to do with it but this album is the slowest one of the three. Now anyone who knows me knows that I generally do not like slower songs. I can actually tolerate slower songs if they are done right and if I was to listen to a classic rock band with an album of slow songs, this album is one I’d probably listen to. The album is fine and it sounds good but it’s not my favorite especially after listening to the first and second albums. I’ll give this album 7/10
Standouts: Cool The Engines, A New World, I Think I Like It
Walk On- the first word that comes to mind when I listen to this album is inconsistent. By that I mean there are parts where is sounds faster than other parts. But really, this album is just too slow for my taste. Now that’s not to say that there are great moments on here but it’s just not my favorite. I mean it’s just an ok album and one I probably won’t be revisiting anytime soon. I give this one 6/10
Standouts: Walk On, What’s Your Name, Surrender To Me
Life Love & Hope- I didn’t realize that there was a 13 year gap between this one and the last album. Like the last album, this one is just too slow. Like seriously I can only take so many slow songs. It’s not a bad album just not as good as the others. I will say that this album was made in 2013, and they actually still sound pretty good which is a positive. Overall, this one is just ok. I give this album 5/10
Standouts: Last Day Of School, You Gave Up On Love (2.0)
Overall, Boston is a great band but their last couple albums have just been ok. I encourage anyone who hasn’t heard these guys before to check them out or if you haven’t heard them in awhile to definitely give them another listen. Honestly, if I was playing music at work for a large group of people and I had to play music everyone would like, I’d definitely make this band my go to.
