We’ve arrived to Ozzfest 1997!! This is the first official summer tour and man what a lineup this was!! Up first we have Coal Chamber with their performance of “Loco.” Yes I know I wrote about this same song on the 1996 Ozzfest article but it’s a great song and considered a classic for a reason. Let’s take a look….
Knowing how big they are now versus back then is kind of a trip but one has to remember that this was the very early days. In fact, they were being managed by none other than Sharon Osbourne herself so naturally they were on the second stage. But not only were they on the second stage, they opened the second stage which is crazy to think about. I mean given how big they got after this and watching their performance is kind of a trip. It’s also kind of weird seeing them as the first band on the poster too. But you’ve gotta start somewhere and what better way to gain more fans than at a festival like Ozzfest. This performance of “Loco” has a bit more anger and you can hear the bass a lot more. By this time the self-titled album had officially dropped in February of that year and Ozzfest started in May. Again they definitely look like a Hot Topic catalogue threw up on them but that was the look back in 1997.
