Back in the early 2000’s, there were so many music specials that it got hard to keep up. I mean we had the MTV VMAS, VH1 Big Awards, The Billboard Music Awards, etc. One such show was the MTV Icon and in 2003, Metallic was the recipient of one such special, so with that let’s take a look………
Going back in 2025 and watching something that happened in 2003 (you can watch the full thing on YouTube BTW) is really like seeing a snapshot of who was big back then. The performers were an interesting choice to say the least. We had performances from Sum 41, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Avril Lavigne, Snoop Dogg, and Aaron Lewis. Now one might look at this and think to themselves “ why them? Why is Avril Lavigne performing the song “Fuel?” But you have to remember this was in 2003 and all of these artists were at their peak. I will say that the performances from Korn, Sum 41, and even Limp Bizkit weren’t actually that bad. In fact, they were actually pretty damn good. As far as the other ones go, let’s just say that if you ever wanted to see a cringe performance of the song “Fuel” by Avril Lavigne or a terrible performance of “Sad But True” by Snoop Dogg then you’re in for a treat. Going back and watching this on YouTube not only takes me back, but it also makes me sort of miss that time when there were more music specials on TV. It makes me miss the time when you had to set your DVR to record TV specials and you couldn’t just go online to watch instantly.
