It’s cool when bands return from the previous year. It just means that they were so good they had to be booked twice and returning from the 1996 Ozzfest, is Powerman 5000. Let’s take a look….
It’s sort of weird to see bands like Powerman 5000 now versus back then because their look was just so much different. On the 96 Ozzfest, they had this sort of hip-hop look and for the 97 Ozzfest, it was just a normal look whereas today, they have this sort of almost futuristic/retro look. I don’t know. I really can’t explain it but musically they had more of a rap rock kind of sound. Of course, they were still touring behind the Mega!! Kung Fu Radio album so they had this rap meets funk meets industrial meets metal sound. Honestly, if you haven’t checked out this album you definitely need to because it’s a really cool record. Now it’s interesting about their performance is that on some dates, they opened the main stage and on other dates they headlined the second stage. If you ask me, they’re a good sort of in-between for the main stage bands. I mean you go from their funky industrial metal sound to Machinehead and Fear Factory?? That’s a pretty cool way to spend the day if you ask me.
