The Warning’s Queen Of The Murder Scene is really the album where they start coming into their own. It’s no secret (but for those that don’t know) that it’s a concept album and one of my favorite songs is the song “Stalker.” Let’s take a look…..
As I said for those getting into this band, Queen Of The Murder Scene is a concept album about a disturbed young woman’s psychological descent from unrequited desire and obsession into madness and murder. I gotta say that for them being as young as they were when they made this album (they were between the ages of 18 and 13) is pretty damn impressive. Queen Of The Murder Scene tells the story of a disturbed young woman’s inner journey from desire to obsession to murder and madness. The songs are told from the point of view of either the young lady’s inner psychopath or her good side, which has a conscience – until it does not. The album is really cool because it’s divided into 4 chapters and “Stalker” is the first part of Chapter 2 that being about murder and its aftermath.
According to the band during a 2018 Patreon chat, drummer Pau says “the first murder occurs at the end of this song, in the last verse. Perhaps the object of her affection rejected her and she murdered him in a rage.” Also in the chat, singer/guitarist Dany says that “she is singing it to the corpse” when she says “you are mine” in the final verse, since he cannot now get away from her.” This particular song is dark, haunting, yet has great hooks and melodies. The piano intro just adds to an already great song and is definitely a standout. I do wish that they would bring this back into the set-list and my hope is that in 2028 (the 10 year anniversary of the album), they play this album in its entirety. It’s been done before.
