Album Of The Week: Gold Medal

Lately I’ve been in a Donnas kind of mood so I thought this would be the perfect time for an Album Pick Of The Week!!  Let’s take a look……..

I think when it comes to bands that have all women in them, The Donnas were definitely one of the first bands that I was into. They’re definitely one of those bands that really don’t have a bad album in their catalog. But the album that I’m taking a look at for this week is the album Gold Medal. If you go back in, you listen to their earlier albums leading up to this one they’re kind of immature, sort of angsty and of course, a good amount of innuendos.  This one is definitely their most mature album and it’s one of those that when you listen to it, you forget how great it is. Not while it does sort of continue the sound of the record before it, it is slower and that’s because drummer Torry Castellano suffered from tendinitis. But in spite of that she still hits her drums pretty hard and I feel like this allowed guitarist Allison Roberts to sort of experiment and try new things.  I’m sure when it comes to this band in their albums this isn’t usually the first album that people think of, but definitely give this one another spin.  I will say that when I heard it for the very first time I thought it was just OK but over the years I’ve grown to really appreciate this one.  I don’t think I’m alone insane that this band really needs to reunite but at the rate things are going I think that’s just a dream at this point.
