Godsmack

Up next on the chopping block is a band with one of the stupidest names. The band I am talking about it’s the band Godsmack and I’ve really only seen them once which was at Mayhem Festival. They were pretty good then but how’s the rest of the albums??

Godsmack- some right out the gate, they start out with some pretty cool guitar riff age. It’s very much a fine line between hard rock and metal. One thing I picked up on (and most will too) is that Sully Erna sounds a lot like James Hetfield. But either way, this is a pretty cool album so it gets 9/10

Standouts: Moon Baby, Bad Religion, Stress

Awake- for some reason to me, this album feels more dialed in. Almost like it’s a bit more cohesive. It’s definitely a great follow up. Again like the last one, it’s just a great straight up rock record. I’ll give it a 9/10

Standouts: Sick Of Life, Black Magick, Vampires

Faceless- ok so first impressions, one would think they are hearing James Hetfield sing on this record. Seriously Sully sounds so much like him that it’s a little ridiculous. The music is fine but I’m just not a fan of Sully’s vocals on this one. I’ll give this one 7/10

Standouts: Changes, Straight Out Of Line, I Fucking Hate You

IV- again with the Hetfield style vocals although this one’s not quite as bad but this album kinda reminds me a little bit of the first. This one also has almost a blues tone to it it’s a really cool record. Overall, this is a very solid album and absolutely worth a listen. I’ll give it 9/10

Standouts: Temptation, Speak, No Rest For The Wicked

The Oracle- the thing about this album is that it’s not that it’s a bad record but it just feels kind of oh I don’t know safe. By that I mean it’s more of the same. It feels very much like a continuation of the last record. I’ll give it 7/10

Standouts: Forever Shamed, Saints And Sinners, Shadow Of A Soul

1000hp- there’s kind of a lot going on here. There’s almost a rawness to this record which reminds me of their earlier stuff. Now I know that the last album was well received and I’m pretty sure this one was as well but this in my opinion is a better record.  I’ll give this one 9/10

Standouts: Something Different, Nothing Comes Easy, Generation Day

When Legends Rise- I know these guys have been around for awhile but seriously this record sounds almost like a Shinedown album than a Godsmack album. Maybe it’s the way it was recorded or something but seriously this could be a Shinedown album. The songs on this one are just ok and there isn’t really anything great about it. I’ll give it 6/10

Standouts: Say My Name

Lighting Up The Sky- again this feels more of the same. I don’t know I felt that this one was kinda boring. Like it’s not a bad record but it’s nothing we haven’t heard before. I’ll give it a 6/10

Standouts: Surrender

Overall, this is a really good hard rock band and live they are pretty awesome. Some albums feel a bit derivative but they have a solid catalog. I will say that Sully Erna sounds a lot like James Hetfield. Now I know that they are I think either not making anymore albums or not touring (can’t remember) but if you have a chance to see them definitely do it. I would say that if you are looking for a band that sounds a lot like Black Album Metallica meets Alice In Chains, then this band is your ticket.

Final Grade: B-
