I’ve said it before but 2026 seems to be the year for mid-week concerts and on June 11, 2026, I was finally able to see the band Kittie at The Echoplex. Let’s take a look…..
I’m a little late to the game when it comes to seeing this band live. My first time was at Aftershock 2025 and they were definitely one of the better bands of that festival. After their set they did a signing and I remember asking if they were ever going to tour and Morgan Lander (guitar/vocals) said “oh of course we’re going to tour.” Fast forward to tonight and not only do I find myself at the VIP meet and greet but standing against the right side of the stage waiting to see them!!
Once the house music stopped it was on!! Kittie wasted no time and went right into the opener “Fire” followed by “I’ve Failed You” and (one of my favorites) “Cut Throat.” One thing I have to say about Morgan Lander is her vocals are so damn brutal and have only gotten better over the years. She definitely commands the stage. Second guitar player Tara McLeod and fill in bassist Rachel Gonzales both feed off each other and there is great energy and chemistry between the two. You don’t see many bands where the drummer also does backing vocals but Mercedes Lander is a perfect example of being able to do so. Playing the way she does as well as doing clean and growling vocals is certainly no easy task but when you’ve been around as long as this band has, it’s definitely second nature. I also noticed that she drums barefoot and I think that’s pretty badass!!
Sadly all good things must come to an end and they closed the night out with their classic “Brackish” followed by “Eyes Wide Open.” I’m really happy that this band is having the resurgence they are having because they are definitely back with a vengeance. If there’s ever a band more deserving of such it’s Kittie and they have now made my Bands To Always See list. As of writing this, they still have a lot of dates left to got on their current tour so if you can, definitely go! Not only are they a great band but they are some of the nicest people I think I’ve had the privilege to meet. The fact that after 30 years they’re still making great music is pretty damn impressive. I am sorry that I am just seeing this band now because they absolutely crushed it!!
