Glaring Omissions: Green Day- Bab’s Uvula Who?

It’s always fun to throw on a playlist on Spotify or whatever streaming app you use for music and a song comes up that you haven’t heard in such a long time that you forgot how fun it is. Then, of course you decide to look into the song stats of sad song and realize that it hasn’t been played in quite a long time.  For today’s Glaring Omissions, we’re taking a look at the Green Day song “Bab’s Uvula Who?” Let’s take a look………

It’s been a good while since I’ve actually listened to anything by Green Day, but as I said in my intro, sometimes Spotify will pick random songs and I forgot how fun this song is. I think I’ll always have a soft spot for the Insomniac album I mean after all this was one of the very first CDs I ever bought with my own money and I think it lived in my CD player for months on end. The song “Bab’s Uvula Who?” is definitely one of my absolute favorites off this album.  The song title actually comes from a 1976 Saturday Night Live sketch featuring Chevy Chase and Gilda Radner in which Chase plays a doctor making a knock-knock joke about Radner’s uvula.  The song itself is not about the sketch, but the band liked the weird quirky name so that was chosen as the song title. It’s just one of those short, but fun songs off the record and I love how fast Billy Joe Armstrong sings this song. His cadence on it is just so much fun and it’s so fast and I’m sure this was an absolute blast to record.  Personally, I think this band needs to play more songs off of Insomniac because not only is it their best record, but it’s their most punk sounding record. Looking at the setlist.fm website, it’s actually never been played live before. So I have to ask what the hell is that all about?  I mean money was spent to record it. Time was taken to write the song so why hasn’t it been played?  I guess I’m putting it out there in the universe…….. Play this song live damn it!!!
